They have actually canonically gone under cover as a gay couple twice. Like, it wasn't that they were mistaken. Finch took Reese with him as his plus one to a party - even though Shaw was also there and he could have taken Shaw, he took Reese.
That was so amazing. Finch's *eyebrows*. :-) I love that episode, it is just as slashy as the one where they go to a movie together and Reese holds Finch's umbrella and guides him with a hand at the small of his back. And the one where Finch gets into a billionaire fight about which obscenely rich tycoon will have possession of Reese. *g*
But what was the other canonical "undercover as gay couple" instance you mean? I can only think of the gala +1...
The vet. I mean, they didn't explicitly say they were in a romantic relationship but I don't know what else they could have been - they had obviously told the doctor they lived together with the dog.
I felt this season was already a bit wobbly, what with the expanded main cast and the prominent whole-season Vigilance/Samaritan/Decima plot. I don't trust the show to have a solid grasp of what the strengths of PoI were and are, and how to translate them into a different, but workable form.
I am really interested to see where the show is going to go next season. And, I'll admit, I love that the basically set up Shaw and Root as star-crossed lovers, because they are awesome together. :D
There are definitely going to be major changes... I merely wish I could be more confident that I will still like the new show that emerges from the ashes of the old. (Okay, somewhat dramatic, but hey. *g*)
Shaw and Root are indeed extremely slashy, and Root definitely ships them like crazy. Shaw seems to be coming around a bit, at least. We'll see where it goes. ;-)
At this point, I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. And, honestly, it wouldn't surprise me if Decima starts getting in touch with Finch. :D
This show has often surprised me by surpassing my expectations before - let's hope it does so once again! :-)

Hmm, how d'you figure? Samaritan isn't able to find Finch, and if that changes - or Decima somehow tracks him down by other means -, I assume Decima will simply try to finish the job and have him killed.
Of course, circumstances might change so that Decima wants Finch alive for some reason, but right now I wouldn't know what they would want him for...

Shaw and Root are indeed extremely slashy, and Root definitely ships them like crazy. Shaw seems to be coming around a bit, at least. We'll see where it goes. ;-)
