I just noticed that I typed "the poisoning of Jaime" rather than Joffrey in the 'Granny Tyrell' section. Freudian typo...

And, yeah, I've already gathered that from the recaps I went looking for right after writing this (and I don't really consider it a spoiler since it's in the past of the series timeline, as well). It does cast a very unpleasant light on how the show intends to present this scene.

There is such a sky-high risk of poisonously vile factors playing into the intended interpretation of the scene. Such as "but she is a total bitch and asked him to kill Tyrion, so she had it coming!", and "but they're in a relationship, so it couldn't have been rape!", and even "but she was meanly refusing to have sex with him when she clearly should have, so he was within his rights!" and that horrible classic "sure she was saying no, but she didn't mean it and actually wanted it!"

Even if the show *doesn't* intend the scene to be read that way, a large segment of the viewers are likely to, if it is never commented on further by the narrative. And if it shoulld turn out the show itself embraces a view colored by one or several of those vile ideas... then I really don't know how to get past that.

and that horrible classic "sure she was saying no, but she didn't mean it and actually wanted it!"

From what I read about an interview with the director, that was what the scene is supposed to be showing. Poor dear doesn`t seem to know what consentual/rough/dubcon sex would look like so he probably didn`t know how to shoot it. *sarcasm*

I wonder if they did other takes and the actors are flabbergasted as well by the editing. I mean someone involved in the making of this scene - camera operator, key grip, craft services maybe? - should have gotten a clue and be like "hey, if she is supposed to be into it, the scene should turn around now".

No idea if it speaks to me just not connection emotionally too much with the show because my thoughts during that scene were mainly "yeesh, you just got rid of the incest monster spawn, way to risk another", followed by "if Cersei grabs the cloth any harder, dead Joffrey will tumble down on top of them."

Yeah. Read that quote by the director, too. It really does not bode well for how this will be handled in future eps. My guess: It will simply not play a role to the characterization and redemption arc of Jaime. Nothing significant happened, right? Right.

And if Cersei ever brings it up again she will be portrayed as being her usual bitchy bitch self, hounding Jaime and being totally irrational again.

"if Cersei grabs the cloth any harder, dead Joffrey will tumble down on top of them."

You know, that was probably the best way to view the scene. ;-) But I would have loved it if that had happened - imagine how much the ep would have been improved by Jaime starting his thing, Cersei grabbing the cloth, and dead Joffrey joining the two of them on the ground.

Hey, necrophiliac incest would have been a better addition to this relationship than rape, in my personal opinion.

(I actually forgot about Joffrey's body completely because it didn't even signify to me anymore just where and when this was happening.)
