So, I've been writing drabbles a lot lately, and I've finally collected a bunch to post at once over here. Enjoy.
Title: Something From Nothing
Pairing: 5927 [GokuTsuna]
Rating: PG
Summary: Tsuna makes him real.
Notes: This....was really just pointless ficspam. Instrospective Gokudera ahead.
Helpless. Oh god, has anyone ever felt this helpless. Gokudera isn't sure. He isn't sure if he wants to be sure, either. Blustering aside, wouldn't wish this on anyone.
(It's his burden.)
(Tsuna wouldn't like it.)
Tick-tock, on rolls the world without him. The world does not need useless baggage, he knows this and has always known.
Shouldn't be this hard. Shouldn't, wasn't supposed to. Till now all he wanted was a purpose, a use. That was his purpose before, now he has one, and why is he so helpless?
For a moment, he wonders to let it be so and let the world sweep him by -
"Gokudera-kun! Didn't you hear the teacher? Detention's over!" the Tenth says, waving a beckoning hand, and just like that he surfaces and pushes on.
(Pulls him up, makes him something from nothing.)
The Tenth is a good person, the best. He always grows and moves forward into tomorrow, and for some reason pulls Gokudera after him. Won't ever leave him alone.
Gokudera smiles and wishes in this moment it would never end. That maybe this feelingstrengthsomething could stretch on for eternity.
(An eternity of threefivetenyears and it can't. Not anymore.)
But Gokudera doesn't want to think about that.
So he doesn't.
Title: Early Mornings
Pairing: 802759 [YamaTsunaGoku]
Prompt: Coffee
Rating: PG
Summary: Tsuna didn't much like coffee. His subordinates seemed hellbent on changing that.
Notes:
neneno requested "coffee" and this is what came out, haha. Takes place seven years in the future. Oh, and this will have an accompanying chapter fic sometime in the near future. Yes, I should be shot.
Yamamoto's been drinking coffee a lot lately. Tsuna doesn't quite get it. A while back, once upon a time, they both tried it and agreed that the extra energy wasn't worth it.
"Oh, this?" Yamamoto laughs when Tsuna asks him. "I just thought if Gokudera liked it so much, maybe it was worth it. You should try it, Tsuna, it's not that bad."
Tsuna shrugs. "I'll take your word for it."
But after that, Tsuna somehow sees coffee around more. In the kitchen the three of them share, Gokudera presses a cup into his hands when he's rushing to work after a late night, Yamamoto offers him a warm mug on lazy weekend mornings. Tsuna refuses - he still isn't sure he'd ever be that fond of the beverage - but it's nice of them to offer, he thinks.
"You're both insufferable," he murmurs at last when he wakes up to find they've cooked him breakfast in bed - coffee on the side. "Some right-hand men you are, trying to make your boss succumb to addiction." But he picks it up anyway, tries it out.
"How is it, Tenth?" Gokudera fusses. "I tried to add the right amount of sugar and cream, usually coffee takes some easing into -"
Yamamoto laughs. "So, Tsuna, is it really as bad as all that, or are you changing your opinion?"
This prompts an indignant rage from Gokudera at being interrupted, and the morning continues as normal. Tsuna just smiles down at the mug in his hands. "No, it's not bad at all," he murmurs quietly.
Title: No More, No Less
Pairing: 802759 [YamaTsunaGoku]
Prompt: Video Games
Rating: PG
Summary: It was their tradition, just for the three of them.
Notes:
genkitozuku requested "video games" as a prompt and here we are. I....don't really know where I was going with this one. OH WELL.
"Ha, take that, baseball freak!"
"Ahahaha, you're pretty good at this, Gokudera!"
Tsuna smiled, just a touch ruefully. Those two always did have to turn everything into a competition, didn't they....even just a simple video game. Then again, it was just how they were; really, he'd be worried if they didn't compete over everything.
"Oi, Tsuna. You want to try?" Yamamoto laughed, and the next thing Tsuna knew he was being pulled over into the other boy's lap, a controller pushed into his hand.
"You-! How dare you touch the Tenth in such an improper-!"
"Ah, I'm really not so good at video games, Yamamoto," Tsuna replied apologetically. "Really, I'm fine with watching...."
"Nah, it's fun! Just try." Yamamoto's hands moved to cover his own on the controller, guiding his movements.
"Ah - um - Yamamoto, I don't think that'll help -"
"You idiot, don't you see you're only restricting the Tenth?" Gokudera snorted derisively, and Tsuna was yanked over into his lap. "As the Tenth's right hand, I'm obviously better suited to help him."
"But he's not doing any better," Yamamoto pointed out.
"You shut up!"
Tsuna laughed nervously. "Come on, guys....I can't do anything with you guys fighting over me, if you're going to make me play then let me do it?"
"Ah, that's right! Sorry, Tsuna."
"My humblest apologies, Tenth! I wasn't thinking of your convenience, I am a failure as your right hand man!"
"I-it's okay, really...."
And suddenly Tsuna found that the roles were reversed. Now he was the one struggling with the characters on screen, and the other two sitting on the sidelines calling out encouragement and advice. And even if Tsuna wasn't good at video games, somehow it was a nice experience.
The other two went home soon after that, but the next Saturday they were back to do more of the same. And the Saturday after that. And the Saturday after that. It was becoming their tradition.
"Tsu-kun, your friends are coming over," his mother called one Saturday. As usual.
Tsuna coughed miserably. Of all the days to fall sick.... "Ah, that's right..."
"Should I tell them to stay home?"
"No, it's our tradition. Just tell them I'll be resting in my room, mom?"
"All right, Tsu-kun."
"Thanks." He crawled back into bed and closed his eyes to sleep, feeling terrible for missing out on their tradition.
When he opened his eyes the digital clock at his bedside read 4:00 PM. Gokudera and Yamamoto would still be downstairs -
"Tenth, are you feeling all right?"
Tsuna looked up, startled, to find both of his friends sitting by his bedside. "Ah - what are you doing here? I thought you'd be playing....."
Yamamoto shrugged. "Well, it's something all three of us do. We can't really have fun without someone there, right?"
"Shut up, idiot," Gokudera growled, probably more out of habit than anything. "Tenth, it wouldn't be right without you. As your right hand man, I could never allow it!"
They bickered for a while, and Tsuna smiled. This was how it should be. "I'll make it up to you next weekend, then."
Yamamoto laughed and agreed to hold him to that, while Gokudera protested that it wouldn't be right, and Tsuna was just happy.
It would always be the three of them. No more, and no less.
Title: Rainy Day, Come and Play
Pairing: 8027 [YamaTsuna]
Prompt: Rainy Sunday
Rating: PG
Summary: Normal people think the rain is a mood killer. Yamamoto isn't normal people.
Notes:
hitsuuji wanted 8027 (she's bent on making it my OTP, I swear), and
cup_ramen_chaos requested "rainy Sunday" as the prompt. This is what came out. A little strange, I dunno, I blame the fact that I was listening to Bjork while I wrote.
It's Sunday, and it's raining.
Any normal person would be discouraged by this. Sundays are days to laze around, go out, enjoy life to the fullest. Rain puts a damper on that for most people.
Yamamoto certainly isn't most people.
The rain pitter-patters only a few feet away, and Tsuna stares uncomprehending at the boy dripping quietly on his porch.
"-love rainy days, don't you?" Yamamoto is laughing, and all Tsuna notices is that he isn't wearing a raincoat. "And I thought, well, why not-" Isn't there such a thing as taking your affinities too far?
Tsuna is staring at Yamamoto through a dry-mute glass world, hardly comprehending until a startlingly wet hand closes around his wrist and those few feet disappear, and all of a sudden the world is crystal-cool and alive.
Yamamoto smiles at him. Water drip-drops down his lips. "So, Tsuna?"
Tsuna isn't sure what exactly is being asked of him, but he knows what it all boils down to. Come live with me and be my love, the foreign words spring into his mind, and he can taste them in the rain-washed air. Just some assignment, but the words trickled into his mind and have suddenly come to life.
He takes Yamamoto's hand. Yes. He doesn't have to speak, even nod, because in this moment both of them understand perfectly.
It's Sunday, and it's raining. The world is perfect.
Title: Precious Things
Pairing: 802759 [YamaTsunaGoku]
Rating: PG-13 for Gokudera's mouth.
Summary: A talk outside the hospital, and perhaps a beginning towards an understanding.
Notes: This. God. It just. Came out. I don't know, haha. I can't stop writing lately.
Yamamoto walks out of the hospital doors with his hands shoved in his pockets. Gokudera leaps to his feet; Yamamoto notices the cigarette clutched in his pale fingers, wonders how many that makes now. "How is he?"
"He's okay," Yamamoto murmurs, for once somber. "His knee's just hyperextended. He'll be on crutches for a few weeks, but he's going to be fine."
Gokudera starts cursing in some mangled amalgamation of Italian and Japanese, and Yamamoto's pretty sure those are some choice expletives aimed at him that he's catching here and there. He bows his head, stares at his feet. "I'm sorry."
"Sorry, sorry isn't good enough, you were supposed to keep him safe, I knew I couldn't trust you -" And Gokudera launches into another unintelligible rant again, this time entirely in Italian, no doubt calling him all manner of useless, despicable things. Yamamoto bears with it until he's about ready to scream, but then Gokudera rants, "I should have been the one to protect him, I'm the one who cares about him, if it had been me this wouldn't have-"
Yamamoto snaps. "It was an accident, Gokudera, and don't you dare assume that I don't care about what happens to Tsuna-"
"No matter how much you say you care, it can't possibly-"
"You aren't the only one he means everything to." The words slip out almost of their own accord, and Yamamoto takes a shaky breath. "I know I screwed up, all right? I know. I just...."
They're both silent for a little while. Finally Gokudera mutters, "Che. As long as you know, I guess I'll let it slide. But you better not screw up again."
"....Yeah."
Gokudera's hands fumble for another cigarette, like scratching an itch. "Fuck. Dunno what I'd do if...."
If something went wrong. "Hey," Yamamoto says. "Give me one of those."
"Why should I, baseball idiot?"
"Because I want one."
"Che. Fuck that." Gokudera puts the small white stick in his mouth and lights it. "You think I care? You're too much of a goody-goody to go and start smoking. And anyway, the Tenth wouldn't like it."
"C'mon, Gokudera."
Gokudera takes a drag, blows the smoke out. "Fuck no. One of us needs to go check up on the Tenth anyway. No smoking in the hospital, remember?"
"But I just did...."
"You gonna screw it up again?" Green eyes stare at him searchingly through the veil of smoke. "This isn't a fucking game, dumbass. You might as well leave for good now if you're gonna just leave him there."
"....Right." Someone has to be there with him always. "You coming in to say hello later?"
"Che. 'Course I am. The Tenth's right hand has to be near him at all times, after all. Just go, dumbass." Gokudera takes another drag. "You can handle it for just a few minutes without me, right?"
"Haha, of course. Take your time." It's maybe the first time Gokudera's trusted him to handle something. Especially around Tsuna.
"Yeah, yeah. Why are you still here?"
Yamamoto smiles and heads inside, making his way to Tsuna's ward, and Tsuna smiles up at him, so bright. "How's Gokudera-kun doing?"
Yamamoto shrugs. "Haha, he was really worried! But I think he's okay now." He smiles fondly. "I think we all are."
Title: A Day for You
Pairing: D27 [DinoTsuna]
Prompt: Tripping
Rating: PG
Summary: Tsuna had to wonder why Dino had suddenly showed up at his door. Without his men, no less. Today was already looking to be a disaster.
Notes: Soooo a little while back over on
fandomsecrets, a certain
linear_flower was bemoaning the lack of anyone else actively shipping Dino/Tsuna. I've been on something of a quest to bring more love for underloved pairings to the fandom lately, so I offered to write her one. And this is what came out! I hope you like it, dear; I'm not sure how I did with it, but I tried. ♥
Tsuna enjoyed the quiet moments of his life. These days, they came so few and far between that he had to appreciate every one that came along. Moments like these tended to have a distinct lack of Family members, of mafia business, and especially of Reborn. Rare indeed.
But right now, Tsuna was reveling in one of those very moments. Admittedly this moment was being spent studying to avoid death-by-Reborn later on, but that didn't make it any less precious. Everyone was out shopping with his mother or doing their own things, and he was blissfully alone.
Ding-dong.
Maybe not.
Tsuna sighed and got up to get the door. It was probably Gokudera again. He did make a habit out of constantly checking on Tsuna's every move, after all....
Tsuna jerked open the door, and a familiar person fell face-first over the threshold with a small "oof." "D-Dino-san?"
The mafia boss in question looked up with an embarrassed grin. "Hey, Tsuna. How's it going?"
"Ah..." Tsuna held out a hand to help Dino up. "What are you doing here?" And where are your men, he wanted to ask, but he was sure Dino had his reasons.
"Well, ah, I was in the neighborhood and thought I'd drop in on my cute little sworn brother. What, I can't do that?" Dino laughed.
Tsuna smiled. "N-no, it's fine.....I was just wondering."
Silence. The two of them stood staring at each other in the foyer. Tsuna was getting just a tad nervous; how long were they going to just stand here like this? But he also couldn't quite break the silence.
"So, ah," Dino said at last. "How about we go do something?"
"Ah - huh?"
"Well," Dino said slowly, "your family's away. So's mine. I'm sure you'd like some more time away from them to enjoy yourself, so how would you like to go somewhere with me and just....do something?"
"Something?" Tsuna repeated.
"Like....I don't know. Would you like to go out to eat, or to a cafe or something? I'll treat you."
"....why?" Tsuna asked weakly.
"....Because I want to give my sworn brother a treat and some time to relax. Is that okay?"
"All....right," Tsuna said slowly. "Um. I know an ice cream place nearby?"
"Sure!" And Dino grabbed Tsuna's wrist, dragging him off down the street.
"Um....Dino-san?"
"Yes?"
"It's the other way."
"Oh. Right!" Dino did an about-face and promptly marched in the other direction.
After many accidents, inexplicable detours, and hopelessness in general on Dino's part, they finally reached the ice cream parlor.
"What would you like, Tsuna?" Dino practically chirped, money already in hand.
"Um. Just, ah, french vanilla, please," Tsuna said.
"All right. Two of those, please," Dino told the cashier in turn.
Tsuna quickly took the cones from the cashier before Dino could. "Ah....let's sit over there," he said, gesturing to a table in the corner. On the way over, Dino fell flat on his face; Tsuna was glad he wasn't carrying the ice cream cones.
As they ate, Dino babbled on almost nervously. How nice the weather was today, and things were going pretty well for the Cavallone Famiglia, and how was Tsuna's school life going? He could take out anyone causing trouble for his cute little sworn brother, no pro-
"Ah - Dino-san, careful!" Tsuna cried, a little too late, as Dino's random wild gesticulations sent his ice cream flying onto his fine coat. Tsuna sighed, picking up some napkns and leaning across the table to scrub the sticky sweet out as best he could. "You couldn't have brought Romario or something?" he mumbled.
Dino was quiet as Tsuna cleaned him up and they started heading back. Finally he murmured, "You know by now. Don't you?"
"Huh?" Tsuna paused.
"After a while....it starts weighing on you. The Family. You're never alone, not ever," Dino said quietly. "Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't give up being Boss to my men for anything, but some days....I know how it gets." He sighed, shoving his hands in his pockets and looking to the sky. "I thought I'd give you a present. Just a little time for you to enjoy yourself on your own, for once. You know?" He smiled apologetically. "Sorry I screwed it up with my clumsiness."
"Ah - n-no!" Tsuna said quickly. "It's fine, Dino-san. I....I really did have a good time. Thank you."
Dino smiled. "You make such a cute sworn brother, Tsuna. Ah, here...." He tilted Tsuna's face towards him.
"Huh-?" And then Tsuna was very effectively shut up by Dino pressing their lips together gently.
Dino's grin was unrepentant when he pulled back. "You had a little ice cream left over. Sorry 'bout that. Oh, we're back!"
A black limo pulled up as they reached Tsuna's house. Romario rolled the window down, looking reproachful. "Boss, where have you been?"
"Ah, sorry, Romario. I wanted to pay Tsuna a visit, talk about Family stuff one on one. Sorry to worry you."
"Boss...."
Dino laughed off Romario's questions, waving to Tsuna as he got in the limo. "It was nice seeing you again, Tsuna. I'll talk to you later!"
Tsuna put a hand to his lips as they drove away. "Yeah," he murmured. "It was nice."
"Tsu-kun!" his mother called.
"Coming, mom!" he yelled back, and turned to go back into the house. Back to his Family.
