I have forgotten to keep anyone updated, but in June we adopted another kitty. She was born May 1st, and she's the perfect addition to our home. There was not a hiss or spit from the moment she arrived, and she's fit in very nicely. She does have a tendency to play with Doug's electronics, and for that she earned the name Kaylee, after the adorable, girly mechanic from Firefly.
I also like that I can say "Evie is 8, Jack is 4, and Kaylee was born in May" and no one knows I'm not talking about children. LOL!
She was born at one of Doug's best friends' house, her father was his cat, Creamy, and her mother was her cat, Abby. When we drove up at the end of June for the wedding, she came home with us, after having chosen us and been chosen by us repeatedly all weekend. She is the first kitten I have ever watched suckling at her mother. She is also the first cat I've ever had when I knew her exact birthday, May 1st.
It really was fate. She passed the Jack and Evie interview process with flying colors, and they both love her, play with her, bathe her, and cuddle with her. She seems to have attached herself to me more than Doug, perhaps because she's decided that when Evie sits in my lap, it's "girl time," so she'll cuddle up on my shoulder. I've woken up many many times in the night and found she was sleeping on my chest or my back. She hates strangers. No matter how often our families visit, no one can touch here while anyone else is here. Only Doug and I can get close, and only after everyone is gone. When the newlyweds came to visit, she hid all day. I guess she was afraid they might take her back!
Oddly enough, this is Doug's first kitten. He never lived with vivacious Evie (who's a middle aged lady now), and Jack was already nine months when we adopted him. Kaylee is a sedate kitten as kittens go, but she gets into her share of silly situations. I asked him what he wanted for Christmas, and he said "A new kitten. That one's getting big." I made a joke about how we had to wait three and a half years, since there are exactly four years between all our cats (Evie and 02, Jack in 06 and Kaylee in 10.) "Won't Jack get a shock in three years when we bring another one home, then?"
Anyways, we have dozens of adorable pictures of her, most of the best ones are her and Evie or her and Jack playing or napping. Alas, we have only one uploaded to the web right now, this one was taken just a few days after she came home, when she was just a tiny ball of fluff. She's seven months now and finished with all of her many vet visits. She's going to be sleek and svelte, compared to Evie and Jack's noticeable stockiness. Mom calls her a Blue tortie.
