A few more ideas for what to do this weekend, for those in Ohio anyway....
Cleveland/Akron:
This weekend seems to be odd-movie weekend in Cleveland, and I'm not even talking about the
Cleveland International Film Festival.
Forbidden Zone at the Cleveland Cinematheque, 9:30 Saturday (and tonight, but I already missed that) -- The 1980 film featuring music by The Mystic Knights Of The Oingo Boingo, later to become famous (with a decidedly less weird sound) as simply
Oingo Boingo.
Inside Deep Throat opening this weekend at Shaker Square Cinema -- A surprisingly well-reviewed documentary about the most famous porn film ever (which I've never seen, btw), and its impact on society, though unfortunately this apparently doesn't settle the question of whether Linda Lovelace was coerced, had a moral change of heart later, or just became bitter about being underpaid compared to others involved.
Notable music coming up:
Thursday April 7:
The Queers at
Peabody's.
Friday May 13:
Dramarama and
The English Beat at
AMP in Akron.
Also, it's sold out but interesting....
David Byrne (from the Talking Heads) is giving a lecture at the
Akron Art Museum about his
PowerPoint art.
Columbus
This looks like a good weekend for shows in Columbus. Maybe the wrong spouse went south this weekend....
In film we have
End Of The Century: The Story Of The Ramones at Studio 35, 10:30pm tonight through Sunday.
As for live music...
Tonight:
The Queers and the
Groovie Ghoulies at
Bernies.
Red Dahlia does an EP release show along with four other bands at
Skully's, and those with March birthdays get a free
Cringe.com/pilation CD.
Saturday:
Jaded Era, a pop band from Akron, is one of four bands playing at
Fat Eddie's.
Sunday:
Lost Weekend Records hosts "Hootenanny 3" between 4pm and 9pm, with ten bands. The one I'd be most interested in is Michelle Lundy. She was once bassist and backing-vocalist for
Dogrocket, but unfortunately she left the band before their CD was released, so her voice and her songs were omitted from it.
