You know what the great gonzo-journalism writers of the 1960's had in common? Honesty, followed closely by alcoholism. They wrote about who pissed them off, why, and everything else that it would have required bulky recorders or on-the-record conversations to prove. And the red tape? Did they give a shit? No, they published it anyway, and nobody sued each other because civil action was an embarrassment to both parties. You said what you felt, and your only risks were the social connections of your employer.
