It is odd how we avoid saying death in our society. We say things like "he kicked the bucket", "he passed on", "she is singing in the choir enternal"...we just don't come out and say it.
Then we seem to try to prolong our existence by spending fortunes on coffins and gravesites. Why do we do this? This money would be better spent on the families of the dead.
I spend some time at a coffin factory this week. It was amazing the exhaustive processes that it took just to make one. These things are better made than the home I live in. I was there trying to do their insurance benefits. Much of what I do helps people prepare for death. I was musing I am just part of the life cycle as were my prospective clients. When you do this you need to find some humor and perspective in your work. You can't do it on the job. You always have to be a sober "Joe".
I have come to the conclusion I just want a viking funeral but instead of a boat an iceberg should be used and set ablaze. I just like the idea of opposites being used "fire and ice". Of course they won't have to lay a dog at my feet since I am my own dog in this case...
