And you made them drunk?

And you made them drunk?

or,

Big as all outdoors

My head is seriously killing me, which is unusual.  Hmm.

So I put a picture of myself on the refrigerator.  It's a headshot with, of course, my chest included.  I really like the picture.  My eyes look amazingly blue, I have the play of a slight smile which actually doesn't look unattractive for a change, and my chest looks big as all outdoors.  It's a self-esteem reaffirming exercise for me.  I want to keep on walking by the refrigerator and tell myself that I'm an attractive person with worth.  Maybe one day I'll believe it.

Mohamed just called.  I had tried calling both him and Durodgio for the past two days, so of course by tonight, I had no doubt that I'd done something to piss them off or, that they are tired of me or something.  It turns out that Mohamed was sick since yesterday and has been in bed the whole time.  His doctor just told him yesterday that the reason he's been urinating so much was that he has overactive bladder, which is caused by stress.  Yesterday, he also came down with a throat infection and the flu or something.  It's always at the times when I am under the most stress that I come down with something, so I'm surprised that I haven't gotten sick yet this fall.

Today in class, Heather told us that she decided it was student appreciation day, so she baked us all brownies.  She was telling us that she and her husband had drank some wine with dinner, so they had to walk to the store to get the eggs.  A few minutes later, she was saying that they were not from a box; they were made from scratch. Aila piped up and said loudly 'And you made them drunk?!" I can not even begin to describe the pandemonium that ensued.  It was by far the funniest thing ever to happen in all of my six years of college.  Every single person in the classroom was laughing hysterically and took a while to calm down.  I know it wasn't funny unless you were there, but maybe someday I'll look back on this journal and it will bring a smile to my face.

I decided (or rather, realized) yesterday that Heather is the only one in the department whom we all respect, me included.  I think we're all doing well in her class, and it's certainly not because she's easy on us.  Her class is a lot of work.  Still, she always conducts herself professionally, acts fairly, responds to students' concerns, and runs her class in an incredibly organized fashion.  Honestly, we just can't say the same for any of the other instructors we have. Honestly, Heather makes the rest of them look like some folk just hired off the street with made up credentials.  It's pretty sad that we can only find one person to respect out of the whole department. I suppose that's why they insist on being called Dr. Balog or Ms. Sbaschnig, etc.  There are no first names with our instructors, which is unusual and silly for grad students.  It's probably the only thing the rest of them can hold as evidence that they get any respect at all.
