Amba-lance
or,
Knowing people
I can't remember if I posted about it previously, but Regina, my mustachioed supervisor with falsely blonde hair, pronounces the word ambulance as "amba-lance." In fact, it's really drawn out, so it's more like "ambaa-laaance." She is so consistent with it, it's hilarious. Some other folk here pronounce it that way as well. I'll answer the phone and somebody will say "Registration to bed 2 for an amba-lance." This lady just called and said that her husband had been brought here by amba-lance. That is, by far, my new favorite word.
Knowing people always helps. I talked to the lady in charge of scholarships at the Y today, and as I have of course known her for years, she was incredibly helpful and has awarded me a 65% scholarship, which leaves me paying like $10 a month for my membership there.
My classmate, Sharon, and I were administering the PLAI-2 to each other today for an assignment. (The Preschool language assessment instrument). I think that I did pretty well on it. She's a Chinese-Canadian who happened to be the only student to get an A on our neuroscience exam. I also got her addicted to facebook.
