Six Things: Prisons, Bells, Contrivances, Restraint, Funeral Homes, Queen of Sheba

1. Friday Night at The Fuze had a bunch of strong newcomers. I feel the Philly scene is the culmination of ten years of Just Hanging In There. There is enough stability to have new and old artists challenge each other and raise the bar.

2. Saturday the traffic going into Philly was so jacked up that I missed the last guided tour for Eastern State Penitentiary. Got a book, good for the novel research. Had two hours to kill.

3. Toured the Liberty Bell and Ben Franklin's estate to kill two hours. Now my brain is swimming with Secret History details that work in the various metals of the Liberty Bell, the contrivances of Franklin's house in exhausting steam and fumes and smoke, the details of its construction from foreign materials, his garden from seeds sent from England, and the death of his wife during his house's construction and his absence.

4. I fought off the vigilante urge as a crazy guy was verbally berating and following a woman down the street at 4th & Market. It was tense but she was handling herself well enough.

5. Saw both O'Horten and The Brothers Bloom with diva_dot and quixote82 at The Ritz at the Bourse. And saw previews that get filed under "M" for "Movies that would make revsaintmichael cry like a little girl with a skinned knee".

6. Today I went to a birthday party at a Funeral Home and a poetry reading at an Ethiopian restaurant in West Philly. These are the things that I do.

parties, novel, open mic, film
