I have reached a rather monumental decision. I'm not going to attend
MAS this summer. This is a new and odd choice for me because I haven't intentionally missed a meeting since spring semester 2000.
My reasons are thus:
1) I have a lot of commitments, both fannish and real life, that need to happen in June and next to no time to accomplish them. My weekends are packed full and half my weekdays are as well. I could really use the extra day to get things done. Amongst them: Prep for my panels at CONvergence, finish up my
help_japan podfic commitments, and finalize Japan trip plans. That and there's no conceivable way for me to keep up on the TV I'm currently trying keep up on unless I do. (#firstworldproblems?)
2) I'll miss half the meetings anyway between CON and my trip to Japan.
3) The indefinite closing of Washington Avenue to cars has eliminated the cheapest and closest place to park on campus. For now, I just feel like it's not worth the stress. I'm not entirely sure what I'll do about the fall yet, but I'm hoping a reasonable alternative will present itself.
It's all sad, but true. MAS, I'll miss you terribly! Carry on without me and hopefully I'll see you all again in September.
