So we got Stella (our poor car) back yesterday, finally. She was in traction for 3.5 weeks, and it's good to have her back. Our shade tree mechanic was able, amazingly enough, to find a matching car in the junkyard that was the exact same color, so the fear of a three-toned car is not to be realized. We thought the damage was body only, but the mechanic mentioned that he thought it might be overheating, and as we drove it to do a couple of errands last night, we discovered that this is, indeed, the case. So we'll have to go talk to him today, and see what needs to be done, and brace ourselves for more bad news. He charged us a sum that, in retrospect, was really quite high for the body work, so we're hoping that he feels, as we do, that he still owes us a few hundred dollars worth of work, but we don't know that yet.
We've discovered that we sent in the wrong title to the insurance company, to be able to get the total damage disbursement on the car. It's almost enough to pay the rent, but will have difficulty fulfilling that function if it doesn't arrive really soon. We sent in the correct title Monday night, and I don't know how long it will be once they have it before the money magically appears in my account. I've got to sacrifice a rubber chicken and do a magic dance, to ensure that the process is swift. I'd appreciate it if some of you would do the same.
I'm ready for things to stop going wrong for a while.
tough luck
