I know album reviewers are narrow minded and tend to miss the point, but whoever it was that gave Introducing a "D" is just an asshole. They said the band name was stupid, the album cover was stupid and compared them to Panic! at the disco. On the same page some boring, quiet indie rock bullshit got an "A+".
Now, I am not just mad because Foxy are friends of ours, or because they are part of the same movement, or even because I personally like the music. I am irritated because The Onion is a midwest thing, partially based out of Minneapolis, and I am sick and tired of what they DO like and promote as good. Especially in my home town.
"Are you a totally boring Wilco rip-off? You could be the next Beatles!" or "Are you a hodge-podge of early 90's riot grrl schtick that was done to death 10 years ago? You're the second coming of Christ!!!" That's how it goes in Minneapolis.
I cant wait for our full length to come out, as it will get the big release treatment of getting reviewed everywhere. I foresee something like "A bunch of stupid metal noise with some weak NIN synth lines thrown in with a singer that's trying to sound like Mike Patton and Jello Biafra and failing at both". Whatever. Fuck you, future reviewer.
I am fully aware that all truly great things are critically panned at first, or maybe even forever, and I know that things like this are actually positive-but a "D"? The state of music business is even worse than even I thought. I just had to say something about it.
