The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants

I absolutely love this book and it's sequels. It's definitely a chick flick though. No question. My mother calls it the Joy Luck Club for American teenagers. If you aren't familiar with it, The Joy Luck Club is a book by Amy Tan that was made into a movie. It tells the stories of four Chinese-American women and the hardships they overcame in China, and then tells the stories of each of their daughters. Each story is more poignant than the last. So if you watch it, (or read it) be sure to have a box of tissues handy. The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants is just like this book, only all the girls are American and high-schoolers. I bet any teenage girl will be able to relate.

*Spoiler warning, though this isn't the kind of movie where spoilers really matter. I won't give away the ending.*

There are four girls. They have been friends their whole lives. They are all going to be in different places for the summer. Each has her own story.

Lena~ She's shy and quiet. She's the beautiful one of the four. She's an artist. She goes to Greece to visit her grandparents. While she's there she meets a boy. She really likes him, but she's too shy to say anything.

Carmen~ Is the writer. She's outspoken, caring, and can be a bit antagonizing. She is self-concious about the fact that she's bigger than her three friends. She goes to visit her dad for the summer. When she gets there, she finds out that he has a new family of the Suburbia variety.

Tibby~ She's the rebel. She's cynical about everything. She is very good at making movies. She stays at home and works at Wallman's. In her spare time, she works on creating a "Suckumentary." While doing this, she meets a 12 year old girl who gives her a new perspective on life.

Bridget~ She's the athlete. She's outgoing, larger than life, and dazzling. She's a bit boy-crazy. She goes away to soccer camp in Baha California. She falls for one of the coaches and is determined to win him.

Lalalala. Okay, total chick flick, I told you. But it's very enjoyable. IMO, anyway. But bring tissues. Lots of them.
