favourite TV programs

My friend and I have a tradition of going to the cinema in Paris until late at night and then staying up all night watching more films. Last Monday was the Duvivier night and even though I apparently didn't see the best of his films, it was still enjoyable. We ended up watching American Graffiti (which I had never seen before and really liked) among others. My friend converted me to his love for bad films ("so bad it's good" bad films). It's become some sort of religion for him. He knows them all and sends me some YouTube links on a weekly basis. He owns the worst of them and showed me some new discoveries yesterday !

I'm a bit late with this but here is :
Day 03 : Your favorite television program

These are my 4 favourite shows. These are the shows I'd pick if I had to pick only 4 shows.

The Office (US)
This is probably at the top of my list. To put it bluntly The Office is my religion. Everytime I feel down I know that an episode of The Office will make me feel much better. I spontaneously have passages of the show popping into my head in my everyday life. I love everything about it. I love how it feels like an intimate show. If you've been following it since the beginning, there are so many details that you can't miss and that'll make you laugh.
I also think Steve Carell is such a talented actor and I can't emphasize on this enough. The way he just looks at the camera sometimes is simply hilarious.

Top 5+1 quotes :
1. Andy : Andy Bernard does not lose contests, he wins them... or he quits them because they are unfair. ..
2. Oscar : The psychological issues that go behind licking a cat are not things I want to go into.
3. Oscar : Pam and Jim are on their honeymoon, so there's not the usual balance between "sane" and "others."
4. Dwight : Criminals are like raccoons. You give them a taste of cat food and pretty soon they're back for the whole cat.
5. Michael : Toby is in HR, which technically means he works for corporate, so he's really not a part of our family. Also, he's divorced, so he's really not a part of his family.
6. Jim : I bought the boat tickets the day I saw that YouTube video. I knew we'd need a backup plan. The boat was actually plan C. The church was plan B. And plan A was marring her a long, long time ago. Pretty much the day I met her.

True Blood
I can't help listing this with the others even though it's still a recent show. The writers of that show are so talented. They manage to make you sit through all those things that are absolutely ridiculous (the whole "Nice Rack !" quote by Sam or Bill listening to peruvian (I think ?) music on the radio or Bill being serious and saying "we recycle in this house!")  and weird (two words : Maryann and orgies). I can't emphasise enough on those two adjectives here ! And yet, there's this mysterious and perfect balance between all those elements. It's just brilliant.

This required a top 4 Jason Stackhouse quotes :
1. It's like if a tree falls in the woods it's still a tree, ain't it?
2. Sam: You can't shoot anyone else. These are our friends. This is our town.
Jason: Sometimes you need to destroy something to save it. That's in the Bible... or the Constitution.
3. Sarah: You're worse than Judas.
Jason: Why, what'd he do to you?
4. You're wearing gold pants !

Arrested Development
It simply doesn't make any sense and after you've accepted that fact, you just enjoy every second and regret there are only 3 seasons of it. I already listed my favourite quotes here so I'm not going to do it again (I'm repressing myself actually) but I remember reading some quotes from the show before watching it for the first time and I couldn't help laughing even though I had no idea who these people were. It's funny like that.

Criminal Minds
This is the only criminal show I've ever followed. I can't believe what a huge fan I am. The balance between the 7 main characters and the crimes is really smart. You never have too much of one of these two elements. For the crimes, tt never feels like it's "déjà-vu" which I would have imagined impossible for that kind of show. And I dearly love each one of the characters. They are so special.

This list wouldn't be complete if I didn't add Friends and Alias. I've seen every episodes of those shows a few times (a hunded times for Friends) and there was a time when these were the shows I would turn to when I needed to be entertained. Nevertheless they haven't been on TV for years and I don't watch these as often as I used to. I still considered myself a huge fan of both. I have a Alias marathon every summer and I had a Friends marathon last year which was highly enjoyable.

Today I found a vintage Penguin copy of Wuthering Heights ! I couldn't believe my eyes. I always look at the Penguin books they have in their second-hands departement but they're always authors and books I hardly know. I got really lucky !
