Mr. Salinger’s literary representative, Harold Ober Associates, announced the death, saying it was of natural causes. “Despite having broken his hip in May,” the agency said, “his health had been excellent until a rather sudden decline after the new year. He was not in any pain before or at the time of his death.”

(very good) New York Times article by Charles McGrath My favourite writer passed away yesterday. It was always a nice thought to know that he was still part of this world even though he had made the decision to desert it.
The very strange thing is that today I thought I'm going to see if Google News shows anything new about Salinger but it must have been too early since nothing interesting was found. That's so strange. Even though I google him quite often that's still strange I did it today (I know he died yesterday but the news was announced today). Also, today, I was waiting for my train and wandered in the bookshop and I checked Salinger (as I always do).
I am terribly saddened by this news and I don't mind how silly that might be.
I know I already posted these quotes but they never get old :
That's the whole trouble. You can't ever find a place that's nice and peaceful, because there isn't any. You may think there is, but once you get there, when you're not looking, somebody'll sneak up and write 'Fuck you' right under your nose. Try it sometime. I think, even, if I ever die, and they stick me in a cemetery, and I have a tombstone and all, it'll say 'Holden Caulfield' on it, and then what year I was born and what year I died, and then right under that it'll say 'Fuck you'. I'm postive, in fact.

- (Buddy about Seymour) Seymour : an Introduction
I now have to reread all his books. I reread them all last summer but I was feeling like doing it again anyway. Anyone wants to join me ?
