I finished Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro today. I'm posting some thoughts under the cut. There isn't any spoiler but it's safer.
It's hard to talk about a book when you've just finished it but I'm pretty sure I loved this book. In my opinion, it's a very special book. The world created by the author and the characters are good but I'm thinking about the writing. I'm pretty sure it's brilliant. I just loved how there are moments when you think I don't understand what's happening, why is she going there ?, why does she concentrate on this detail ?... I love how the mystery progressively becomes clearer but never actually reach the point where you feel you dominate the situation. Now, in my mind, this story is still very dim.
Sometimes the author concentrates on details of the scene and that leads you to wonder if this means something or if he just wants to lose you. It's really how I felt it. At the beginning, it's really strange because I wondered what the book was really about. I couldn't see where it was heading. It's very confusing but in a brilliant way.
I loved how the main character never feels pity. It makes everything even more tragic.
It was very good. I highly recommend it.
