On Saturday, Billy and I went down to Detroit to check out a sewing studio. Sarah, of
Wound Menswear, gave me a tour of her work space. She produces her own line in the studio, plus whatever other sewing jobs she can get, like film costuming. It was a pretty large space in the Russel Industrial Center, basically my sewing dream. Huge cutting table, industrial machines, other people sewing...it was amazing. She showed me how to work the industrial straight stitch, and oooh I want one so bad now! It was really neat to see someone successfully doing the thing I want to do eventually.
After that, we decided to check out the "tourist" attractions in Detroit. Seriously. We went to Michigan Central Station, and a huge family piled out of a Suburban and started taking pictures. A few more people came and went after that. Then we went to visit Sam, Logan and Mars. Sam suggested that we go get some food from Telway's, a super tiny nasty greasy (but tasty) burger place. Our second destination was the Heidelburg Project. What an amazing/nutty place. A resident of Heidelburg Street has been decorating these houses for the past 20 years. Most are themed, and most are really strange. Walking down the street is kind of like a dream. We saw a group of about 10 people getting a guided tour. Then we drove around for a little bit and went to Belle Isle. I wish the aquarium wasn't closed. The conservatory is open for the summer, I want to go back and check it out. There's also a huge water slide, for $3 you can ride it all day.

Telway's!
The polka dotted house was one of my favorites.
Second favorite house.
A speedboat in the road. Edit: Billy says it was a sticker on the back of the boat, not a plate, that said "DREAMCRUISE". Boats don't have license plates. Still pretty funny though.
