I just reread the "Watchmen", and it's good. It was good and is still good. Of course I love everything Alan Moore has done and I love the "Watchmen" most of all (I do own a lot of Moore books/comics including first runs of the few "Spawn" comics he wrote).
Anyway I'm excited about the movie and from what I can tell it looks pretty faithful to the book (graphic novel?). It won't be completely faithful because and in truth can't be. Comics are so different from movies. In "Watchmen" for example you sometimes have four different stories playing out on the same page, something that would be difficult to do well in a film.
Hopefully thought it reflects the tone of the work and it's message. I know Alan Moore is cynical when it comes to film at all and in fact has never seen any of his work that has been brought to film. I think it's sad because although LXG didn't really capture the heart of the novel, I thought "From Hell" and "V" did it quite well, even if they were modified and as stated before they had to be.
But maybe crazy old Alan Moore is right. Movies are movies, novels are novels, and comics are comics and we should not go out of our way to mix the genres together and in fact by making movies of beloved comics and novels we are just encouraging the downfall of society and promoting laziness and lack of creativity. Of course Alan Moore is crazy so I'm not sure I'd follow him down that line of thought.
