And so, Portland. There is a lot to remember, I shall do my best.
Sunday night after work I sat at the Prima bar to wind down before packing the van. One beer turned to many, came home and played Rock Band with Miles. After packing, loading the van and taking a shower I waited for Celia... at the Prima bar. Evan gets off around 10, we mad dash to the apartment, mad dash to the van and mad dash to the ferry. I had a good tipsy going, so sitting on the floor in the back of the van was fun. At one point I stood up, hands out and said, "Hey, I'm Jason Bateman from Teen Wolf 2!". Evan hit the brakes.
We arrived around 2:30 and scored food at the Hotcake House on Powell, then the three of us parked near my parents house and went to sleep in the van. This was easily one of the most uncomfortable nights I've had, there wasn't really room for three people to sleep comfortably and only a measly four hours after I finally fell asleep the sun was out and I felt like a sardine in a microwave.
The van. Lean closer to the screen, bathe in it's splendor.
Monday started with waking up/loitering at my parent's house, brunch with Evan's friends then a trip to a small record store on SE Clinton. I only wanted to go to Green Noise records because I knew it was recently bought by Dirtnap Records, my favorite record label. The place was small but had a great selection, I picked some stuff up and walked to the register. The man at the counter is the owner of Dirtnap. The. Owner. Of. Dirtnap. UuuuUuGhuHgh. AWESOME. Oh, I also found the Youth Brigade Spies for Life 7".
Evan and Celia crossing Burnside.
We then wasted quarters at Ground Kontrol. Celia and I got our pictures taken in a photobooth to spite Evan. She said she wants to frame it and hang it up int he apartment. I want that very much.
Evan eating a beef tongue burrito. Apparently, not for everyone.
Another record store, this time it was very uneventful, except for the find I made. Youth Brigade had a spin off called The Brigade in the mid 80's. It was way more pop/ska-y, and the record has been out of print for forever. Well they had it to I had to buy it. The End.
Food, visited my parent's house again to see my dad. Then to see my brother's new house. It's pretty awesome. Good job, dude. Then we were off to the show.
Before the show we grabbed some champagne and orange juice for pre show Mimosas.
Evan and I drinking Van Mimosas and taking pictures of each other.
Celia making a great face, and me looking confused.
We went to go see the Revisions and Red Dons, which are the same guys. The Revisions play acoustic instruments but keep the same fast tempo they had in bands like The Observers and The Speds. Instead of taking a break to swap instruments, the second guitarist (who was on the sidelines up to that point) jumps in and wails while the other guys exchanged their acoustic guitars for electric. It was so much fun. Stood in front, got to sing along, "danced". Great stuff.
We went to Voodoo Donuts, grabbed a dozen and took off.
Abandoned "Adult Books" store off Burnside, the Van, Celia and I. And a pink box of donuts.
The ride home sucked. I didn't want to leave, had to sleep in a loud, uncomfortable van. I really didn't get much more than one and a half or two hours sleep on the way back to Langley. We got in around 6 and I had to be at work by 9. Two hours of sleep later I felt worse. It was a terrible feeling I never hope to experience again.
The trip however, was fucking amazing. I had too much fun. The people, the place, the music. I loved every minute of it, and was worth the lack of sleep.
