Small group

So I've been hosting (and by hosting I mean leading/hosting/leading worship/etc.) a small group home church type thing at my apartment every other Thursday for the last couple months. It's been really successful, by which I've found myself slightly befuddled. Each week there are new people who come, and we have a pretty steady number of 10-12 who ( Read more... )

Thoughts: Tommy Nelson, a well-known Song of Solomon speaker (from the series I gave you) was very busy a few years ago, serving hard after God. He was preaching, going to speaking engagements, leading bible studies, mentoring others. Suddenly he became clinically depressed. None of what he was doing was wrong, but he had become burned out. He was doing all those things in his own strength, never taking the time to refresh himself. He withdrew from public ministry for a time, saught professional help, and now he has started to publicly discuss depression. Honestly, I found it refreshing to find that we can over-do ministry.

What to do about it: Step back to gain perspective. Perhaps delegate the leadership. Seriously pray for God's wisdom as to what He would have you do with these feelings. Jesus OFTEN withdrew from everyone around him to spend time praying. Perhaps you are needing some spiritual nourishment, instead of being the one who provides nourishment to others. If you want to hear from Him, open His word to you. Last night at bible study, we read a little from John 14, and I remembered again how much I love that passage. If you can't think of where to read, try there. Soak in His word. Try meditating/memorizing a favorite verse, then say it to yourself all day.

Those are my thoughts for now. I will spend a good amount of time praying for you tomorrow.
