I have sort of unexpectedly found myself as a spokes person for clothpads. Which is kind of funny, because a few years ago, when Suz (
susilou1 that is) first mentioned it I was amazed that she could not only use cloth pads, but also be a vegan and use
some weird rock as a deodorant. What a hippie! And now?
Cloth pads? Check!
Vegan? Check! (Well, mostly.)
Crystal deodorant? Check!
Wanting to drop out of school to do crafts? Check!
(I'm going to do my best to finish school, don't worry. But man, it's tempting.)
Here in LJ land most people who read my journal are those with similar interests I suppose, who I somehow have found myself friended of/have friended because we have something/anything/everything in common. So, here the reactions of my cloth pad pictures weren't that huge, other than in the "pretty!" variety (Or are you people who think I'm a weirdo just keeping quiet? Because it's ok to tell me I'm crazy. I know I am. I have it on paper.). And then I went ahead and posted something about it in my Swedish blog, where I have 200-300 readers on a good day. Mostly thanks to my sister, who has a whopping 1600 or so a day. I don't know how she does it. That would make me all kinds of nervous.
Anyway, I have gotten replies that range from "I'm a Diva Cup user, I would love cloth pads as a back up!" to "Cloth pads? I thought that habit died in the fifties!") And thus I'm finding myself putting together a "why it's not gross" page, because, damn. It's not. And I know there are Swedes out there like my sister who just plainly refuse to read anything in English that is more than a paragraph or two out of sheer laziness.
I can also report that there is very, very few cloth pad sellers in Sweden. You have to either vade (wade?) through silly fabrics on cloth diapering webpages or make do with plain white ones. I even found a site that recommended folding a wash cloth and stuff it in panties as a pad, and recommends the grandma variety because then it doesn't slide around as much! Now that is sort of an outdated look at it, but the good ones are so pretty and actually more absorbent than the disposable stuff.
Some good links to look at to see just how pretty they are:
FeralFeminine makes the prettiest pads ever! Tamarack makes both
all-in-ones and these
really neat liner ones that you can add or remove liners depending on your flow.
Punky has like every pattern imagineable. I also love
this HagRag pad with water melons!
Obviously I can go on forever, so, um, I'm just gonna end it here.
