Book roundup.

It's been ages since I posted in here. But I just finished Feed by Mira Grant, which reminded me of my neglected livejournal. Hopefully I'll keep it up for the next couple of weeks at least - looks like my hours at work are going to plummet soon, so I won't really have any excuse. I guess being impoverished but prolific wouldn't be so terrible.

Books I have read recently, with mini-reviews and no real spoilers:

Embassytown by China Mieville
I probably won't write a proper review of this book because the library is demanding it back. Which is a pity, because there's so much too it. Unlike a lot of Mieville's other work, there isn't a strong focus on a city, although his world-building is just as surreal, fantastic (and occasionally grotesque) as you'd expect. And rather than relying on characters, Mieville has focused on ideas - most to do with language. Completely fascinating (especially for an ESOL teacher!). I can't wait to reread and mull over this one.

Rouge by Trudi Canavan
Another easy and enjoyable read from Canavan - with lots of queer romance! I may have actually whooped after realising that the femslashy vibes I was getting from two characters were more than subtext. It's depressingly rare to see gay characters in novels that are this light and escapist, so their inclusion definitely pushed this book from okay to good in my mind.

Plugged by Eoin Colfer
Good book. Funny, random, exciting.

Feed by Mira Grant
This book made me cry. I now have a craving to read more zombie fiction. Or deconstructions of the media...
