Derby debut

May 27, 2013 03:21

It's 3 in the morning after my first ever derby mini bout. 2 x 20 minute halves. I had been attempting to sleep for some time but my ear infection that has been kicking around is hurting and my stomach was growling so sleep wasn't quite happening. How did it go? I hear you ask. Awesome. I cannot believe how much I enjoyed it. We even lost. So the bad bits.
1. Spending all day waiting to play. Feeling so nervous I had to down some medicine to stop my stomach and bowel from removing everything in my body.
2. Pelvic floor still an issue. Will be forever. I will move on.
3. Sunday night and the inevitability of work tomorrow.
The good bits.
1. Playing with some amazing ladies who were super supportive of me in my very first bout.
2. Getting to only jam.
3. Having a few friends and my family there to watch.
4. Every single time I made it through the pack.
5. Every time I got hit and got back up.
6. Scoring more points then the lead jammer in the first ever jam and my first ever jam of the bout.
7. Jumping the apex no less than 3 times in that very same jam.
8. Having the other team cheer for me.
9. Having my team cheer for me.
10. Having a few of the non skating officials award me their unofficial MVP.
11. Hearing Poz mc something along the lines of Ruthulhu Rex being too quick to catch.
12. Being on the other side of the end of game skate around.
13. Holding up the skate around so Lola could tell me how proud she was of me and she wasn't even in my team.
14. Many congratulation afterwards.
15.Walking away for the game with only minor injuries.
16. Finally not being nervous and instead being able to eat.
17. Skating with some of the best of SRDL
18. Being benched by Toad Rage who benches for the deviants
19. Watching Max run around in his dinosaur suit that matched my hot pants.
20. Looking at the photos that Paul took and knowing he is proud of me.
21. Thinking about how far I have come in a year. From my first nervous steps on skates trying to remember how to do it. To feeling like I could skate but not fit in. To finally fitting but not sure I wanted to skate. I have so much more to learn. But I have been brave enough to try and every week I get better.
I really do love my team and I am so very proud of myself. I started into this to embrace life. To ensure that I lived my life fully after James passed away. I am doing it.
