In which Azula is a total stalker

From my modern AU verse

“Our bending draws strength from the moon spirit,” Azula heard the girl with white hair tell the waterbender. “Our healing draws strength from the ocean spirit.”

The waterbender looked rapt. But not at the fish in the pond. She was staring at the other girl with an expression of awe, and Azula couldn't recall ever seeing anyone so obviously lovestruck in her life.

Well. That might be useful. But not as useful as the information she was hearing now.

“I've always noticed my waterbending is stronger at night.”

The white-haired girl beamed. The waterbender smiled.

Azula nearly gagged on the sweetness of it all. And yet she was amused, hiding behind the little temple near the pond. The waterbender turned a little, and Azula withdrew slightly, so that she couldn't be seen.

Well. This was more entertaining than she had expected the entire visit to the north pole to be.

“I've been having more dreams about the spirits,” the waterbender said. “The moon and the ocean. But I don't know what they mean.”

“What are they doing, in the dreams?”

“Just circling. But I get this feeling- like they expect me to do something. Only I don't know what.”

“You'll figure it out,” the other girl said. “If the spirits are sending you messages, then they mean for you to figure them out.”

“I wish the spirits would just come out and say whatever it is they want,” the waterbender said. “All this guesswork, and dreams- I'd rather they just talk. Is that too much to ask?”

“Maybe it's hard for spirits. Maybe they're doing their best.”

“Maybe. I still think they could try to communicate a little more clearly than this.”

Silence.

“It's a beautiful night, isn't it?” The white-haired girl said.

“It is.”

For a moment more, there was silence. Then, a moment later, an extremely muffled “Yue!”

Azula peeked out again.

The white-haired girl was kissing the waterbender, in a chaste, slightly boring way. Both were a little flushed with embarrassment, and it was obvious that they were pretty new at this.

Azula might have given them some pointers, if she weren't secretly spying in order to capture the benders here.

Actually she probably wouldn't have given pointers. This was more amusing.

The kiss broke off.

“Oh,” the waterbender said. “I didn't realize-”

The white-haired girl- Yue?- said: “ I thought- the way you- And Sokka mentioned-”

“Sokka mentioned what, exactly?” the waterbender asked, voice suddenly full of icicles, and Azula tried to recall who Sokka was. The brother, she was pretty sure. And apparently a matchmaker.

“Just- that I shouldn't be afraid. When I mentioned things to him. He was a good listener. Um.”

There was a moment of awkward silence, and Azula had to clamp her hand over her mouth to stop herself from laughing out loud.

“Oh. I guess I don't have to kill him, then.”

Yue had a look of polite horror on her face.

“So- was it- I mean-”

More awkward kissing happened, quite suddenly. This time, the waterbender was the kisser and the other girl was the kissee. Still, there was no improvement in technique. Only their lips touched. Their bodies were held a bit apart as if by a force field. Their noses got mashed together. They both looked slightly uncomfortable, even though they were certainly enthusiastic.

This would be painful to watch, if it weren't so funny.

Azula went off to find a place where she could safely laugh.

Also to find Ty Lee.

Because there needed to be some competent kissing around here.
