All About Yaphet Kotto

This is Yaphet Kotto:

I love Yaphet Kotto. I love his face, I love his hair, I love his raspy, slightly slurred speech. I love the timbre of his voice. I love his name. I love his acting. I love the fact that he looks like a muppet.

I'm surprised that he is 72 years old.

I just finished watching the fourth (of seven) seasons of "Homicide: Life on the Street," in which he plays Lt. Giardello. It's probably his most famous role, although I had already become acquainted with him in several movies, including Live and Let Die (in which he played a Bond villain), Alien (in which he played Parker, who hilariously discussed "The Bonus Situation" with Harry Dean Stanton), and Midnight Run (in which he played Alonso Mosely, FBI, who has his identity stolen early on by Robert DeNiro).

Here are 5 things I didn't know about Yaphet Kotto (all taken from the wiki):

1. At age 19, he made his professional acting debut in Othello. He got his start in acting on Broadway.

2. He played a supporting role in the original (1968) film The Thomas Crown Affair. That same year he was on an episode of the first season of "Hawaii Five-O."

3. He has written two books: Royalty, and The Second Coming of Christ, and also wrote scripts for "Homicide: Life on the Street." His third book, a novel, The Roman's Jesus Secret is about the bizarre similarities between Julius Caesar and Jesus Christ and is to be made into an independent movie shortly.

4. He appeared on "TV Nation" in an experiment to see who would have more trouble getting a taxi - a distinguished black actor or a white felon. [After a brief skim-search I could not find the result, although I'm guessing that Kotto lost this one.]

5. In 2008, Kotto reportedly announced himself as a candidate for president, but in an interview he has insisted "I have to get people to stop thinking I’m running for President."
