Sticky: Major undertaking this year: trip to Zambia in August!

Aug 31, 2005 16:30

I’m a leader in my local youth group. I’m not entirely sure when I became mature enough to be classed as an adult, considering I agreed to join while drunk, but I am nice person and its actually turned out to be a lot of fun.

The trip to Zambia is to participate in some projects out there namely the painting and decorating of a children’s ward and helping in the construction of a school. We’ve been fund raising like crazy through different methods raffles and what not - if any one has any ideas don’t hesitate to leave a comment.

As a fund raiser the female leaders in the club (and any parents we can talk into it) are going to run in the Womens Mini-Marathon in Dublin in June.

I'll keep adding to this as it develops.

Update: I can't believe ihaven't updated this since whenever i put it up first. Ah well.

anywho, what i've been doing:

The minimaraton (10k), June. Sonia O'Sullivan Olympic marathon runner did it in 33mins. It took us 11 mins just to get from where we were waiting to the start line. Finished it in 1h 45mins. I walked, not ran.

Art auction, a while ago. One of the leaders is a member of an art group and they all donated a few paintings and we sold them. And we got lots of wine, which i helped to drink.

Social night. Wasn't really involved as it was organised by non-leader in aid of our projects. Went very well.

Mothers v's Daughters football match. Great fun and we raised money. Excellent.

Flag Day. A lot of effort but we did well.

Church-gate collection. People are always very generous on there way into mass. Everybody wins.

Wrote to businesses for support. Got a good bit from this.

Foroige headoffice gaveus a donation as well.

I'm not sure what the total stands at the moment, when i find out i'll let ye know.

[edit] This just in, final fundraising total......over €17,000
