The Dreaded "R"-Word
I just had a very interesting conversation with my Mother.
Recently, we've been chatting about the whole Sarah Palin v. Rahm Emanuel debacle. (Living under a comfy rock? See bit.ly/arWtKq)
I was watching Hardball while Mom was puttering about. Chris and the panel started talking about Palin's statement, and I was reminded that Palin equated the word "retarded" with the word "nigger". I, personally, do not agree with this. Considering Mom and I had discussed this issue before, I wanted to get her input. I track her down and relay what I had heard. She just gives me an odd look. I press, "Thoughts?"
She says, "I think she has something against retarded people."
My reaction, as you might imagine, was, wat.
Her explanation, paraphrased, was that Palin is offended by the word "retarded" because that is how she thinks of her son. She associates the word "retarded" with Trig. It was something I'd never thought of before.
Aaaaaaaaand, so I decided I would share it with you guys. What are your thoughts on this, if any?
