A Handful of Happy Places

After yesterday, I'm feeling SO MUCH LOVE for archaeometry.

Archaeological Chemistry Combines Two Sciences into One Powerful Tool

This article makes me happier than I can describe although, unlike this article, I'm actually quite able to use the word archaeometry. This is truly validation for me stepping back from my doctorate to snag a chemistry degree. I've been like Brisco County, Jr. for the last few years, insisting "It's the coming thing" to any and all with regard to the changes my profession needs to make.

Incidentally, I had linked to information concerning the Roman coin study this article closes with a few months ago. God, I'm good. *g*

Since archaeometry is my arbitrarily selected theme for this post, let's do rock on.

Secrets of the Mummy Revealed

This was just a cool little article about the use of Computed Tomography (CT) scans as a means of non-invasive/non-destructive artifact analysis. Although similar studies (such as this and this, for example) have been done, this was the first time such a study was performed for the Ashmolean Museum.

And, of course, for those of you who weren't around at the time for my giddy, giddy glee over this, here's where X-ray analysis helped with one of the world's most important archaeological discoveries: Finding King Tut's Dick. Seriously, people. How could I not be into this kind of science? *flails* and also *crooks* (Heh.) AWESOME.

Speaking of X-rays, I'm pretty sure most of y'all have seen this by now but I'll also throw in:

X-Ray Reveals Archimedes' Secrets

This makes me insanely happy because I've used this particular analytical tool X-ray fluorescence (XRF) on a number of research projects. That's a fantastic means of analysis.

Oh! Before I forget it, I've happily found (for once) an article that provides a number of contextual links.

Another Egyptian Mystery

Dude. Y'all are totally set -- totally -- with that article for some good old-fashioned clicky fun. Should additional work-avoidance fodder be necessary, skate on through my collection of remote sensing-related neep. I'm particularly fond of the links included here.

(Please note that entry also marked the occasion of my first LJ neepgasm, in which I found some top-shelf geek porn. Fuck me. I still get totally turned on when I hit that site. *fans self* One of these days, I just know I I'm gonna snap and start licking the screen when I crack open one of those links.)

Well, this is a decent little mish-mash of articles. To close, I'll throw in this:

Drought Holds Key to Centuries Old Mystery

Related to the neep that I passed along here, the drought in the UK continues to reveal some truly cool archaeological finds. This one may be of interest to fans of the Tudors.

Cheers!

ETA an update to the Burnt City entry. YAY!
