And now...my fic. I planned on writing another Matt and Julie fic, but tracking down everyone's fics and pimping took a little more time than I expected. So I'm sorry I don't have a lot to show for it, but here is my fic:
Title: Finally
Characters: The main 10
Setting: 1.01
Disclaimer: If I owned this show, I would have more than one copy of the DVD by now.
A/N: I put a lot of thought into how we first saw the main characters when writing this. So this is my (bad) twist on the first 10 minutes of this amazing show.
Coach Taylor stood in one end zone of the field. It was just before sunrise and the mist setting in on Dillon, Texas made the field and season before him seem like a dream. People saying with the quarterback he had it would be. Finally, he was in his element. Finally, his time had come.
Tim’s eyes were forced open by the sunlight streaming in through the windows. He smelled the familiar leather couch he was not surprisingly sprawled across, and beer from the night before. He felt his semi-dressed date from last night (what was her name again…?) lay against his chest and heard his brother’s voice. But it didn’t matter. After all this time he was happy. Tim Riggins was finally happy.
Matt took the juice from the counter, and poured the right amount for his grandma into her glass. His ride had already honked twice, meaning he was running out of time. He left the house like he always did; shutting but not locking the door, and a little nervous to leave his grandma behind. He adjusted the nothing to be proud of sign in his yard and made his way to the idling car. He was finally able to leave the house, and head off to practice.
Landry adjusted his review mirror, and tuned the radio of his car. While most of Dillon was just awakening, he had been up for hours, aware of what he had to do. As the resident chauffer for the backup quarterback, he actually enjoyed be included in the team. Or as much as his rider was. He pulled up to the house, and sat back. Finally football season was here, and Landry could see the evidence everywhere.
Tyra walked around the coffee table and took a swig from what could be day old beer. To her, it still had the same effect, and didn't make a difference in the long end. She grabbed a shirt laying on the floor that only smelled slightly and headed for the nearest bathroom. She sat, hoping for a guarantee that this wouldn't be her seventh day of being late. After almost giving up, she finally let out a sigh of relief and went back out to the living room to continue the fun.
Lyla walked into the kitchen and opened the fridge. She took the platter she was looking for from the middle shelf and placed it on the counter. Once she decorated these cupcakes, they would be the perfect addition to the bake sale. She took a container from the cabinet and slid each one carefully inside. Once they were set perfectly, she was finally able to go upstairs, and pack her bag for Rally Rehearsal.
Jason bowed his head, as guy running the interview shot him questions. With the game just days away he would rather be on the field instead of talking about how great everyone was. But he was QB1 and Dillon like to brag that they had a guy like him running their team. After he answered a few more of the same, expected questions, he was told to go run some plays. Finally, he was on the field and where he belonged.
Smash walked up to the TV crew on the far side of the field. If they were interviewing people, they might as well start with him. A bunch of guys seemed to be running around with equipment, too busy to notice that the person they should be looking for was right there. He was about to call out, to no one in particular, when some man in slacks grabbed a guy holding a camera, and brought him over to Smash. Finally, some real attention.
Julie looked from her book down to her paper and scribbled something barely legible. With the place as packed as it was with a TV crew, she probably shouldn’t be taking up a table for work, but anyone that noticed her wouldn’t care. Suddenly there were two boys standing next to her table with trays. Maybe she recognized the cute, twitching one on the right, but she wouldn’t say so. They left just as quickly as they came, and she could finally concentrate on work again.
Tami closed the door in the empty parking lot as the sun began to set creating a sky of pink. She yanked opened the metal door to the locker room, and headed to the back offices. She walked in and saw her husband at his desk, doing what he does best. She sometimes regretted signing up as the Coach’s wife but when she saw him action, she was just proud. Proud to see him winning, proud to see people look up to him, and finally proud they had a home.
This was Monday, four days away from the game. The excitement started to rise beneath the town as more people talked, wondered, hoped and prayed. They all needed a win. They all wanted the championship. The season was finally here...
***
The week past like always did. With the entire town waiting for that moment the football flew into the sky and landed in a pair of trustworthy hands on field. Once Friday came, it seemed like life stood still in all of Dillon except in the stadium. If those lights were shinning, nothing else mattered.
Coach Taylor took a deep breath as the first players went running onto the field.
Tim took his helmet from the bench and strapped it on, ready to kill.
Matt sat down to watch the game; he might as well not even be in uniform.
Landry waved over the guy selling popcorn, ready to see some good ol’ Texas football.
Tyra walked in late, although no one cared, and found one of the only empty seats in the back.
Lyla fixed her skirt around her waist and picked up her pom-pom from the ground.
Jason made sure his cleats were tight; he sensed a running game tonight.
Smash jumped, hoping to get his blood pumping, and ready to fly.
Julie saw from the stands the players preparing for kick off, and pretended to care.
Tami smiled, proud of her husband and hoping for the best.
This was Dillon, Texas home of the Panthers on a Friday Night. No one in the stadium, under the lights that made nothing else matter could have seen what was to come.
So yeah...I'm sorry my fic wasn't better but I hope everyone is enjoying their DVDs and fics.
P.S. It was too much hassle to LJ cut everyone's name. So, sorry for that and if I messed anything up. There is still time, so let me know if anything needs to be added to the list or changed. Now PIMP!
