Okay, so I really didn't do as much as I wanted to this year (see
this post for more ramblings) but I didn't actually do as bad as I thought I would when I first saw this meme on
babettew54's LJ.
In 2011, I wrote ten fanfiction stories and one chapter totalling 31,407 words. Um, fuck, I so did not realise I only posted one chapter of Revelations in 2011. One, god I fail.
My longest fan fiction in 2011 was, depending on what you mean by 'fic', either Chapter 26 of Revelations (10,413 words) or
Inevitable (4,500 words).
My best story: Oh, hard. Best how? Most reviews? Most 'kudos' on AO3? Just the one I liked best? Probably still
Revelations even with all the fail. It's still getting reviews and favs and 'moar pls's from quite a few people.
My favorite story: My personal favourite is probably
Differences because I'd never read a fic that explored how Lois felt about her kids having so much to share with their Dad and her just being a badass normal. So I wrote it :P And I did like it a lot if I can say so without sounding conceited :P (then again this who meme seems to be self-promotion so whatever)
My favorite OC: I like all my OCs :P I have a few outright favourites but I do like them all in their own ways, even the bad ones I like for their character value :P
Story most under-appreciated by fandom, in my opinion: OMG ALL MY STORIES ARE UNAPPRECIATED. WHY DON'T YOU LIKE ME FANDOM?!?!!!1!!11!! :P Lol, but on a seriously note, I don't know. I dislike some stories in this fandom so who am I to say others can't dislike mine?
Story I wrote that I never thought I'd write: Hmmm, probably
Some Days because I didn't think I'd ever write Smallville fic (there's too much canon!!).
Most fun: I wouldn't write anything I didn't find fun to write :P I did enjoy my first Doctor Who fic
Anywhere because it was just light, fluffy fun :P
Sexiest story: Lol, probably my Lana/Clark/Lois fic
Better. Though even that's only rated PG-13. I just can't write smut, I get was too embarrassed :P
Hardest story to write: Hmmm, probably
Inevitable. It's about Martha Kent's death in my Revelations-verse. It was pretty tricky to write, I drew on my experiences with my grandmother (I was present when she died) and her sister's actual death (falling but also the lucidity in the hospital). So it was a bit emotional. I don't know if I could have coped telling it from Clark's POV so it's from his son's (an OC which is why it's LJ-only and you might not know who anyone is if you don't read Revelations...
Easiest to write: Ummm, I really got in the 'zone' with my
12days_of_clois fic,
Oh, Christmas Tree. It was a bit of a fall-back plot of mine (Lois or Clark has trouble with parenting and the other sets them right, cue kissing) but overall I liked how it turned out. (I was pleased to write it quick too because
barb1808 was here when I did :P)
Did you take any writing risks this year? Well I knew that people might take issue with Lois giving her daughter a gun in my fic Differences but in the end I didn't really worry too much. Lois in the comics owns a gun and can use it, if she keeps it in the house she'd definitely teach the kids about it (in so far as 'Don't touch this and if you really, really can't find me or Dad to take care of it here's how to make it safe'). But kids are kids and kids are curious. Shooting as a sport (like archery) is really fun and no one tends to get hurt so why wouldn't Lois let her kids do it once they got older and have bonding time at the range?
Biggest disappointment: Um, probably
Not Always Good because I wrote it to explore how concerned Lois was that her daughter might turn out like teenage her but then that those fears were completely unfounded because she's an awesome mother. The reviews I got implied that people thought Sophie was the central character and that she was turning out like Lois and only the talk with her Mom stopped that. So... the opposite of what I was saying. I didn't post it anywhere else half because of that. I don't like posting OC-centric fics outside of LJ and most people seemed to think it was about Sophie so... Yeah, disappointing.
Biggest surprise: There weren't really any huge surprises. I was a little surprised at how well
Anywhere and
Some Days did with reviews but then I realised those were just bigger fandoms than I'm used too :P Although, it didn't get the most feedback but I was pleasantly surprised at some responses to
Accidental. Apparently I wasn't the only one wanting to read a fic about the importance of Jimmy and Clark's friendship.
