Okay, so tonight I have come to realize, truly, what an amazing opportunity I have.
My guide, Danielle, was so in love with Paris, and determined that I go home in the same state of mind.
We started out the evening shopping at the Champs Elysee! I didn't buy anything, but it is very nice to see your options. Things that I could never get in Canada. She then showed me all of the Canadian places in Paris; bookstores, bars, etc. And, by the way, I have plans now for July 1st. Apparantly the Canadian Embassy has an open bar cocktail party for those with Canadian passports!
We had dinnner in a tiny little fondue restaurant. It was amazing!
We did a lot of walking. I saw the Notre Dame, l'arc du Triomphe, the Louvre, and many other churches.
Then we went to the Irish pub that Danielle works at. It's been around for hundreds of years. I got to meet some of her friends, and then she got a great idea.
"So you've heard of the Ritz, right? I know the bartender there. He's actually ranked one of the best in the world. People come to interview him all the time. Let's go!"
"I can't go to the Ritz, I'm wearing jeans! Isn't that where Princess Diana came from the night of the accident? I can't go to a place that royalty goes to in jeans"
"No, it's okay. Seriously, the bartender knows me, he'll even get us a table"
And so, off we went to the Paris Ritz into the hemmingway bar Where we did, in fact, get ushered to a table to sit among many a British b-list celebrity. Drinks were 23 euros each, but social connections seemed to dissolve our tab. My Martini actually came garnished with 2 orchids!
And now, as I'm too drunk to continue the typing, I'm off to bed.
Pictures to come tomorrow.
