Chicken soup really does cure everything

11:21 AM 6/10/09 · The blurb on the box said that this was the Czechozlovakian version of Fargo, which did nothing for me as I haven't seen that. I just finished watching it and I gotta say, beyond any shadow of doubt...

...Shut Up and Shoot Me is bloody brilliant!

This is the story of Pavel & Colin.

Pavel lives in Prague and is hopelessly devoted to his wife, doing whatever he can to make her happy. His wife is not so much devoted to him and uses him to get what she needs and is less than faithful to him.

Colin (possibly the most annoying man in the universe) was vacationing in Prague with his wife and she dies in a manner worthy of a Bugs Bunny cartoon. She gets cremated against his wishes, he carries her ashes around in a thermos and clings to it like life itself, and he tries to kill himself but that doesn't work as well as planned.

Pavel is hired to be Colin's driver when the widower requests his driver to kill him. He says he'll pay him for it and, eventually, Pavel agrees. Colin tries to pay by credit card, which doesn't go over so well, and Pavel's great plan for him to die panliessly is to leave him on a miltary firing range where the bombardment shows why the Czechozlovakian military is not well known for their accuracy.

The money spent quickly on clothes, Colin demands that Pavel honor his contract...and things go merrily along from there. Toss in a professional killer and girlfriend and his tiny dog, wears a harness so he can be carried like a suitcase, and things just get even more twisted.

Only Colin & Pavel speak English.

Shut Up and Shoot Me is pure comic genius.
