Am using the new computer lab in the library at the UW. All brand-spankin new computers with huge-ass 15x20 inch (or there abouts) flat-panel monitors. They also got spacific computer lab designed tables to put them all on with the pull out keyboard shelf and all that fun stuff. Cool computers, but I feel very faaaaaaar away from the moniter itself. The thing is like three feet away from my line of sight what with the big table its on and the extra keyboard shelf, and all the writing seems smaller because of it. Kinda annoying, actually, but seeing as the other computer lab is currently being used for a class, well, here I am. YAY shiny new computers.
Speaking of computers, I have come to the conclusion that I really need to buy myself one before fall semester starts. I'm thinking a lap top because a) it would be easier to pack up and lug around when I move into the dorms of whatever university I finally decide on, and b) Lap tops = shiiiiiiiiiny, and I've always wanted one (I just cringed at how much they cost). Well, I got my change check from my financial aid this last week, and instead of putting it into a CD like I had planned (it was about 1000 bucks less then I was expecting, and since I had wanted to put at least 500 into my savings and/or checking account, well... it wasn't really worth it), I put it in my savings account and decided that, yes, I needed to get my own computer (that ran on something more up to date then Windows 98) because I fear my poor Shadow, much as I love the girl, has come to the end of her years. At this point, another reformat (she's already been brain washed three times) would probably do more harm than good (my dad's old computer, which was only a year older then Shadow, came back without a graphics card and only 16 colors when he reformated it last summer, so he finally ended up buying a new one, too, though he still uses the old one for storage and stuff) and seeing as my CD burner hasn't worked for a year and a half now, I would rather keep what I have and try and get the smart computer selling people to see if they can't transfer the majority of the contents of her hard drive into a newer and younger body.
So, any tips on what to buy (or not to buy) would be more than welcome. At this point all I have for requirements are "I have to be able to make shiny graphics and photo manips, it has to have some sort of video card so OMIGOD I CAN DOWNLOAD AND PLAY MUSIC VIDEOS, it has to be able to play music, and it has to have some version of Microsoft Word on it". So, yeah... Ideas would be welcome.
Also, I am stuck at school until 6:30 and no one is on MSN to amuse me and no one updating LJ. Anyone wanna play with me?
