Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter ramble

Have finished Obsidian Butterfly. I always hate finishing a series. It means I have nothing else to look forward too until I find another series that grabs my attention.

Don't suppose anyone wants to rewrite the latest books for me and cut out the gory details? I mean, I don't mind if they still *refer* to the fact that they had sex, I just don't wanna read it. You know, turn all the ten pages of "I accepted his throbbing manhood" type stuff into a paragraph of something simple like "I knew exactly where he was going, and I let him take me there. One of the best decisions I'd ever made." Or something like that. I'm sure you could throw any important dialogue in there as needed. (I'm actually kinda half rewriting the "preview of the next book" scene found in the back of OB in my head as we speak, just to see if it could be done. So far it's working. Of course as I skipped over most of that scene as it was, go figure, more sex, there's always a chance I might be missing something.)

Of course, from what I've heard about the latest two (three?) books, if you cut out all the sex, there would be like... twenty pages left of the whole story. ;)

Only regret I really have for my decision not to read the newer books is the fact that I won't be able to see more character built up for Asher, Cherry, and some of the 'newer' characters (maybe Damian and Nathaniel, but honestly, I never really liked their characters much or gave a damn about what happened to them. However, from what I've heard, I assume Nathaniel at least grows up a bit? Or, well, not grows up, but grows out of some of his habits, yes?) Asher, at least, is one of my favorite characters (no, not because he's hot, though that is a nice bonus. ;) ). There's a lot more to him than what meets the eye, and I would have *loved* to see his character explored further (though I'm kinda afraid what Hamilton would do to him considering the train wreck she has made of Richard). I even have a few fic bunnies hopping evilly around in my head for him.
I also think Cherry has a lot of room to grow. While I doubt she'll ever be as 'main' a character as Asher, I really liked what I saw of her in Blue Moon, and it would be nice to see what ideas Hamilton has in store for her.

But, yes, I have finished Obsidian Butterfly and loved it just as much the second time around. Even more so, maybe, because I better understood the significance of the jaguar to the Aztec people due to my research into the Mayans and, to some degree, the jade and the obsidian blades. YAY ancient history! However, for me, OB is the final chapter in an excellent series. It may not have tied up all the lose ends (and might have, in fact, created more than we started out with), but I figure I can live with not knowing. Besides, if the curiosity gets too strong, I can simply go online and find spoilers and summaries quite easily. Ah, the joys of reading a book that was first published 5 years ago and which technically has three more 'sequels' already on the rack. :D

Now all I have to do is pick from the half dozen new books still waiting to be read up stairs in my room. Choices choices.
