On 7-year-old monologues

Sep 30, 2012 17:36

I'm doing the writing thing, and at the moment it involves a 7-yr-old monologuing. Since I couldn't remember if 7 year olds actually monologued still, or if they had already reached the "Answer every question I am asked with one of the following: 'I dunno', 'nothing', or 'whatever.'" phase, I texted Emma, who just happens to have a 7-year-old.

Maren - Random question of the day - do 7yr old still like to talk about what they learned/did in school that day?

Emma - I have to drag it out of mine, but I'd say as a whole yea.

Maren - Thanks! I was relatively sure I didn't hit the 'What did you learn in school today?' 'Nothing.' phase until fourth or fifth grade, but man, that was 20 years ago, so I could've been remembering wrong.

Emma - Heh. :) I get "I dunno." To which I throw out things like "Ohhh, so you must have stood on your head eating carrots with your toes." Cause clearly if you don't know what happened, that is a viable option.

Maren - Of course! Nothin' says learning better than consuming crunchy root vegetables while maintaining inverted gymnastics positions!

Emma - Absolutely! It is one of the top 5% of schools in the state. Inverted gymnastics are used to rush blood to the brain in order to increase cognitive abilities of 6 year olds. That's the trick you see.

Maren - AND carrots are good for your eyes. ;)

Emma - Yay! Eyes!

::pause::

Maren - We have the weirdest conversations.

Emma - I was thinking this is reminiscent of the IM chats we used to have. ;)

Maren - ... And I was already copying it down into LJ for posterity's sake, just like our IM conversations of old. ;)

Brain-sync moment for the win!

And now back to writing. Or playing on the internet, one of the two.
