I am currently in Livingston, Montana, taking advantage of the free wireless to check email and do a bit of an update. So far? Loooooooooots of driving. Yesterday we were on the road for thirteen hours, today it was around ten or eleven - it's hard to keep track now that we've already passed one time zone and will soon go through another. Local time is around 10:00 pm, but my computer is insisting it is 11:00, and my body is too Highway Hypnotized to give a damn either way.
Anyway, a few * points to keep you up to date.
* When we left home Monday morning, it was bright and sunny and promising to be another gorgeous day in Wisconsin, so we were all jazzed up for travel. As soon as we crossed the Wisc/Minn state line? Massively thick fog that we did not drive out of until somewhere about two hours east of Wall, South Dakota, which is where we stopped for the first night. Not fair, Ma Nature.
* There is nothing of interest in South Dakota. Nothing. There are *thousands* of billboards advertising stuff that they *claim* is of interest, and okay, Wall Drugs was kind of neat in a tourist-trap kind of way, but did they *really* have to start posting billboards for it every 200 meters starting around the middle of Minnesota? Otherwise there is a whole lot of nothing. At least we finally got some topography once we crossed over the Missouri River, and there is Mount Rushmore if that is your sort of thing, but it held precisely zilch for me and my family... Darned the government for ruining a perfectly good mountain.
* Wyoming, on the other hand, is kind of neat. And Devils Tower is totally worth driving by.
* Montana is more nothing, but at least we had hills and pretty scenery. And once you got into the mountains, the drive is much nicer. Well, at least as far as stuff to look at is concerned.
Initial plan was to reach Kennewick sometime tomorrow evening, but that depends entirely on how my little Coyote and his tiny engine handles the whole "driving through a mountain range" thing. If it's too much, we're thinking another night on the road wouldn't be a bad thing, and hey, I might even have a functioning vehicle once we finish the trip! ;)
Thats enough for now. Will update more as I get access to wireless.
