flooded

I have decided that this place should be renamed Lake Forest or some such thing. As I ran along the rail trail today (in the pouring rain) the waters from the river were up so high that they came up all the way to the rail trail on both sides. I felt like I should have been in Avalon in a boat with a long-haired priestess guiding my way. The best surprise was when I got to the foot bridge that goes over the Wallkill River and not only witnessed the overflowed banks first-hand, but also the ever-extending line of pumpkins that were floating down the middle of the river for as far as the eye could see. There is a farm up in town that grows them near enough to the river to have been ousted by the entruding waters spurred on by the last week of steady rains. Pick-your-own pumpkin won't be very income generating this year. The best thing is that there were a couple of guys propped over the edge of the bridge with a fashioned chain-linked square that was attached to a long rope with which they were trying to capture the pumpkins as they went by under the bridge. After watching a few attempts, I realized that this was not as easy as it seems.
