In general, I don't shower in the mornings. It's mostly a time management/laziness issue - I refuse to get out of bed even a second earlier than I absolutely need to. Compounding this the amount of time a shower takes me - with my subsequent skin care ritual, the whole endeavor generally doesn't take me less than 20 minutes to half an hour (and that's when I'm hurrying). Especially now that I share an apartment with 3 other people, I try not to occupy the bathroom during critical times.
In any case, this morning I woke up much earlier than I expected, and I wanted to shower before heading out to school to study. The water supply in my building is a little off-kilter though - depending on how many people are using what kind of water, the temperature of what's coming out of the spout can be slightly variable. So far it hadn't really been a big deal, just a little increase or decrease in the temperature during the shower.
Today, though, was an experience in temperature. First of all, since my apartment was converted into a 4 bedroom from something much smaller, the bathroom that I use does not have a radiator or heat pipe in it - it was pretty cold in there this morning. Shivering like a chihuahua, I stepped into the shower stall, knowing that after the shower water runs for a few minutes the bathroom will heat up and it'll be much more comforatble. Unfortunately it was as if the water coming out of the showerhead was whatever temperature it decided to be at the time. First all the hot water disappeared, and I was left having something resembling a seizure while I waited for some hot water to return. Then it came - and apparantly a few seconds later the cold water decided it had overexerted itself, and needed a break. Had I not jumped out of the stream, I could have been burned pretty badly. The rest of the shower is a blur...cold, hot, freezing, boiling - the only temperature not represented was the one that I wanted.
At least I got a good workout jumping in and out of the water...
