Homeland security

I travelled today (well, yesterday, since it is past midnight) from Staten Island to Upper Upper Manhattan by public transportation, carrying a rather large, bulky and heavy duffel bag. While sitting on the ferry, I noticed a very interesting thing - there was a mop/broom closet across from where I was sitting that had all kinds of warnings on the door - "Authorized Access Only/This Room Contains A Fire Axe/Unauthorized Persons in the Vicinity of this Door Constitutes a Breach of Security." I thought this was a bit much for a fucking mop closet, even if there is an ax in it. I mean, realistically, someone could walk on to the ferry fairly easily carrying a firearm. Are we really that worried about someone getting their hands on an ax?

Anyway, I was just sitting there, my brown self with a large duffel bag, when I noticed that there always was a crew member of the ferry within view of me. This was highly unusual, since normally the crew members can't be seen at all. Tonight, however, I saw 3 crew members at various times making sure they were around my area, and then 2 officers came down to confer with them. There were several glances in my direction, some nodding heads, and all kinds of signs that I was the subject of a lot of attention. Of course, being the asshole that I am, I started playing into it, acting fidgety and nervous, darting my eyes about, checking my pockets and my bag obsessively. They never talked to me, but I was monitored the whole ferry ride. Kinda interesting...discussion?
