Public Speaking

Today I finally finished my maymester course!! Three intense weeks, a semester squeezed in, and it's all over. I managed to finish with an A. You know part of the reason I chose Public Speaking for the maymester is because I wanted to get it over with. I was terribly scared about talking in front of people. But when it came down to it, it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be.

In the end, my teacher actually told me that I was good at it.
As my father said, if you try to go up there being all cool, you'll just look stupid. Do what you have to do and be yourself, that's all there is to it.
I got positive feedback from everyone at the end of my speeches.

If you're interested in your topic, you'll do so much better.

Informative Speech (4-6 mins.): The Real Fairy Tales (3 reasons why the original versions would be too gruesome for children to handle, examples included Snow White, Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, Beauty & the Beast, Mother Holle and Hansel & Gretel)

Grade: 99 (1 point deducted for holding index cards with both hands)

Persuasive Speech (7-9 mins.): Why Christmas is not Christian (origins and misconceptions of Christmas, examples included the nativity according to the bible, pre-Chrisitian Christmas celebrations and how Dec. 25 became the official day of the nativity)

Grade: 95 (30 secs. over and a projector malfunction when trying to show images of contemporary and pre-Santa Claus (Odin the Norse god/the holy man & demon Krampus))

And after being so anxious to get it over with, I'm kind of sad it's over. I feel like I have so much to say.

Maybe a major in communications is in store...
