He liked his coffee with two creams and a bit of sugar. It’s what I’d learned in the last fifteen years, watching him pour and stir, pour and stir. The monotony of our lives had interrupted the passion we’d once shared. The way his eyes had once flickered with light for the love he had for me.

Lately, it had began to loose the blaze it had once held, now barely a glimmer in the soot.

“Seems the Ministry is having some sort of trouble with Trolls.” He says, barely glancing up from his copy of the Daily Prophet. Once glimpse of his brown eyes and I’m sent back to a time when I was more important than the sodding paper.

“I was thinking we could take a trip to Scotland.” I suggest, knowing the answer I’ll get. The same answer he always gave.

“Escaped convicts shouldn’t travel, Remus.” And right back to his coffee, making that annoying slurping sound.

“We could be discreet. You could travel as Snuffles.” I try a bit harder this time, knowing my efforts will get me nowhere.

“Your fascination with my dog form is unnerving.” He grins, finally glancing up from his paper. That grin, the one I miss, sends my soul floating. “I’ll see what I can do.”

My fingers twist into the soft material of my sweater and I nod, taking a small sip of my tea. These days, it’s hard not to wear my emotions.

“I love you, Remus.” He whispers, reaching across the table, waiting for my hand. “Scotland it is.”
