So, according to the new interview up on Mugglenet, Aurthor Weasley was the one who got the reprieve, and that was all the way back in book five

To round out Harry's 'marching off to death' party? I'd say it was this one. Have the 'full set', so to speak (aww, I was a bit sad for Peter that he was left out). And then of course Tonks had to die too because I don't think she really could have lived on without Remus. To be perfectly honest, when she said two characters would die who she hadn't expected to die, the first two I thought of were Remus and Tonks. Because you honestly can't have ONE of them die and the other one live on.
Then again, who hasn't said that of the Weasley Twins? :(
I agree with all the comments above, and would like to add that right now I'd REALLY like Jo to tell us what she had planned from the start and what not. Was R/T planned? Was Tonks specifically 'invented' as Remus's love interest? (You'd almost think so: "oh, Remus is gone, so let's toss the love interest too.")* Was Teddy planned? The interesting thing about Remus's death being unplanned is that it explains SO MUCH about the abruptness and... unpolishedness of his death. He was literally cut from the book.
* I keep thinking of LotR and JRR Tolkien's comments in his letters that Faramir - another one of my favourite characters - was unplanned and just suddenly walked into the scene. I keep wondering whether Éowyn was planned too, before Faramir, or if she was added later as a love interest for Faramir. And if she was planned before him, what had he been intending to do with her before Faramir showed up? Hmm...
I'm sitting here in my corner imagining that after a few decades worth of floating around in the afterlife, Remus and Sirius can maybe forgive Peter in light of how his hesitation to carry out Voldermort's orders helped Harry.
