Dean doesn’t know how to run, Sam decides, because he knows everything about Dean just because he has felt everything there is to feel about him. Sam decides that he knows more about Dean than Dead does, and that doesn’t trouble him, it doesn’t make him lose sleep at night; he is completely fine with his thinking of that.
So Sam comes up with a brilliant plan: run away to show Dean how to run. He can’t think of a better plan, but that seems like the best plan he’s ever thought of. But, of course, Dean cannot know this so he says a lie instead; he says it was because he wanted to be safe. He doesn’t know if Dean believes it or not.
Sometimes, Sam thinks of himself as the older brother because of the control Dean can show him. Dean’s like a puppy; submissive, pushing him to his limits, and yet always making him love him again and again.
Sam can see right through Dean’s actions; he’s not relaxed, he’s trying to seduce Sam. And it’s working.
