Wow, so that was a scrunched-up, jumbled mess. There were a good three episodes' worth of story in that one ep, and it showed. Musical chair couples? Blair suddenly forgiving Chuck, hooking up with him, and Chuck panicking and cheating on her, all within ten minutes? Nate and Vanessa breaking up for no reason, followed by the resurgence of Vanessa's feelings for Dan and a reconnection between Nate and Serena? All within ten minutes? I would buy every last one of these developments over the course of three episodes, but not jammed frantically into a finale because the writers so clearly failed to adequately restructure their planned storylines after the strike. It all made no sense and was made even worse by how good the run of the show has been up UNTIL those last ten minutes.

They did do their best to pay enough attention to Dan/Serena and Rufus/Lily; Rufus/Lily still felt a tad hurried toward the end (plus, still ENDGAME, I am NOT fooled), but Dan/Serena rang true to me. Especially Dan describing himself as "the most understanding guy in the world." Looooool. Oh, Dan. Believing it about yourself doesn't make it true. I'm on his side, though. Serena lied and lied and lied to him. It wasn't about her "not being who [he] thought [she] was." It was about her not trusting him. How can he trust a girlfriend who doesn't trust him?

I also wish they could have given more screentime to Dan joining forces with Blair to destroy Georgina, because YES. THAT WAS AWESOME. Okay, I'm not a fan of the whole boot camp thing, but whatever, TV show, and the point is that Dan played the game. And he was good enough at it to fool Georgina, who is basically Blair gone evil. Oh, Dan. (Again.) That was brilliant. With a little training, a little more time with the right company to break the Humphrey conditioning, you could be Blair's equal in creating and managing disaster. And that would be amazing.

And I approve of the plot hook in re: Jenny interning with Blair's mom. That'll be awkward. :D

I just really wish they'd restructured and saved a bunch of stuff for next season. Nate/Vanessa is inexplicable and boring, but having it end for no reason is annoying. And, seriously, Blair/Chuck deserves far better than being an afterthought. It looks like at least Nate/Serena and Dan/Vanessa have been saved for next season, and hopefully this was just the first chapter of Blair and Chuck's fucked up but wonderful and mutually satisfying relationship, because they really are kind of made for each other.

And while I'm making wishes: Blair/Dan/Chuck, plz. I would spontaneously combust. It would be worth it.
