I'm for sure going to be a foreign exchange student. kate steckmest went the belgium last year, and i asked her what program was hte most like 'reliable' and she said rotary. so my mom heard in the bullentin at her school (eastmont high school) that there was going to be a meeting, so my mom and i went. and just got a basic understanding of the program and requirements and process. soo thenn, i had to fill out this extensive application and have medical papers and dental papers and all this random ass information and four copies of everything and all signatures in blue ink all turned in by monday at 4 oclock. and there were like 15 people from the wenatchee valley, and they could only advance a couple more.
so i got called, and they interviewed me on Thursday, and it went well, i had to re-schedule a time cuz i had callbacks, but it worked out and went well. they asked me like why i wnated to be an exchnage student, what my home life was like, why i wanted to go to Australia(i told them that was my first pick) how i would respond if someone tried to serve me alcohol at dinner, how i would explain that what americans are like on tv is different from real americans, etc, etc, and then they said they would call me if i advance from that. and they called, and i did, and i was so worried, this was friday, and i did sleep, had horrible nightmares about callbacks and about the FES (foreign exchange student) thing, and my dad told me there was a message on the answering machine, and i advanced, then i ran down to the school to check the cast list and i got the part i wanted in the play. so great day, then we won the football game and i made like 50 bucks in tips at work.
then i had another more intense interview on saturday, with memebers of the british columbia and whole washington state rotary members, and the first quetsion they asked me was how i would explain the term checks and balances. i totally blanked and tried to bs something about metaphorically i could explain it, and they were liek okay wel what are the 3 branches of government. i was like leglislative, uhh, and blanked again. the rest of the interview went okay, it wasnt great, and i was just kinda bummed. and then i hung out with Mario and Jordan, told Mario about it, hes like oh it will be fine. and my mom said the same thing, but i didnt think that i would get it.
and the dude who totally stumped my on those questions called me today, and told me that i am going to be a foreign exchnage student next year, adn asked me what my first choice was. i said Australia, and he said well ur the only student i can tell this to, but you get your first choice because no one else wanted it. Unless something happens (where i would just get sent to another country) you are going to Australia next year. and i thanked him and we spoke for a little bit longer and hung up and i screamed and ran upstairs and started balling and hugged my mom and was so stoked.
i am so excited, i cant, o my gosh, i cant believe it. cuz i was considering going through another program if i didnt get to Australia thru Rotary. But, i do?!? and they made it known that its never a given that we are even going to get within our top 6 choices. its a miracle, seriously. a dream come true, like it totally, worked out perfectly i am SO EXCITED!
