Yesterday Keith and I went to the pet store to pick up some more ferret food. When I walked in, I was shocked to find the white ferret STILL there. When I went over to the ferrets, the white ferret got all excited and followed my fingers where ever. A girl who works at the store, the one in charge of the ferrets, came by and said, "So is today the day?" And I had to tell her that we were not getting the ferret.
I totally believe the ferret turning grey (she's continuously darkening too) was a sign that she wasn't ours. Especially when Keith's car broke down a few days after we decided not to get her, AND he got a new, full-time job. It was the worst-possible time to get a new fuzzy, and we could have never foreseen it. I did hold her yesterday though, and she was sweeter than ever. It was really easy to not become tempted, because I know now is not the time to get more ferrets.
Though, one of the males was just awesome. He was really small, and his temperment was a lot like Kipling (very cuddly). He was a really dark sable, with his shoulders being totally black and having a slight yellow tint to his bib. He was just wicked-looking. If we were looking to get a third ferret now, he totally would have been it. We want cool colors (either really dark or white), cuddly personality and perferably a male. He had it all, but we don't at this time. We told ourselves we will not even concider a third ferret until we have our Ferret Nation cage.
Funny, all the employees at the pet store were trying to get us to leave with a ferret! LOL! They know us pretty well now, and stop to chat a lot. The girl in charge of the ferrets is just awesome. She handles them a lot to keep them nip-trained. She has also been litter training them and even getting them used to wearing harnesses. That's right, when the store isn't busy, she'll put a harness on them and a leash, and let them walk around the store. Seriously, how many pet stores do that? Better yet, she asks potential buyers about their knowledge of ferrets. If they seem uneducated, she'll tell them to go home and do more research before coming back. She refuses to sell a ferret to someone who doesn't know what they're doing. Again, how many pet stores would do that?
I love that store. Although we do plan to adopt a ferret someday, if we do end up buying a kit in our future, he will definately be from this store and none other.
