All the videogame companies appeared to have one very common thing going for them: they all designed games that were similar to other ones. It was a market designed around money and greed. One company would make a game and another company was right behind them with a knock off that was going to make them huge amounts of money. That’s the difference today with videogames. Yes, the companies are trying to make a lot of money, but the games are original to a certain extent and keep the player wanting to try something knew. It’s a market that has opened up to better graphics and gameplay design, as opposed to mass producing a piece of crap just to make money. The players (us) have options as to what we want to play (which console system), so if a particular system has boring games or bad graphics, it’s easy to use a different system. Don’t get me wrong, I believe that Atari and other companies wanted to entertain people with their systems as well as make money, but they would have tried to make better games rather than 27 different versions of pong if it was a passion of pleasure, rather than a hidden greed that is money-driven. You can see this with all the add-ons the consoles tried to sell too. If the system was getting boring from looking at the sales, it wouldn’t be long before some add-on would come along and try to boost sales again. This is just an interesting viewpoint to talk about. I really don’t hate videogames!
