I was merely attempting to get the man accept reality. I don't think he believed you would ever take Teddy from him by force, though I may have encouraged the belief that you would take Teddy if Potter didn't wish to have the responsibility of him anymore.
I can see now that it was perhaps not the best method of handling the situation, however, it seemed to have gotten the point across.
