History/Personality: Shirley is your average girl, complete with clubs, friends, and a love interest, Lelouch. Unfortunately for her, said love interest was actually leading a rebellion against the world's only super power, the empire of Britannia. Eventually, a battle between his forces and one of Britannia's princesses leads to the accidental death of her father. Afterwards, she is questioned by a soldier to find out the real identity of Lelouch, as the soldier believes him to be Zero. Shirley takes it upon herself to follow him and find out the truth. She stumbles upon him unconscious, his mask having fallen off. Indeed, Lelouch is Zero, and thusly her father's killer. Even though she realized this, she ended up shooting the soldier from earlier after she spoke of turning him in. Desperately confused, she runs away trying to sort her feelings out when a new enemy of Lelouch, Mao, arrives. He manipulates her into believing that she needs to kill Lelouch and then herself. Once Lelouch temporarily defeats Mao, he uses his own power, Geass, to erase all of Shirley's memories that include him in the hopes of taking away the burden of the crimes and sins she has committed. This lead to "odd" behavior in school when she meets him again, as she did not know him but all of her friends knew she did, and that she liked him. She soon finds traces of her life before her memories were wiped, like old letters, not to mention her friends' questioning of her. In one particular note she finds, she discovers that Lelouch is Zero all over again. While she initially plans on confronting him, she decides not to, not wishing to put herself in danger. During the Rebellion of the Black Knights, when Lelouch takes over their school as a base, she places her faith in him that he will not let harm come to them.
About a year passes, starting the second season, and Shirley has been seemingly brainwashed into forgetting about Lelouch's younger sister, along with her rediscovering of Lelouch's identity. Her previous confusion as to whether or not she knew Lelouch also seems to have vanished, and she has returned to liking him. When the president of the Student Council decides to graduate, she holds an event in which Shirley and Lelouch officially become a "couple." All is well until an old foe from the past casts his Geass-canceller, restoring all of her altered/erased memories, including Zero's identity. The next time she's shown, she has become a little more than confused over what has happened to her. Suddenly, she feels that everyone has been hiding behind a sort of mask; she no longer knows who to trust. She plans to tell Suzaku about Lelouch's secret identity, but decides not to, seeing how Lelouch is alone in his mission. She tries to find him so that she can join him, but when she runs into his "brother," Rolo, she confesses this and about how she also wants to save his missing sister; he then kills her. Lelouch ends up finding her as she's bleeding, and instead of telling him who her killer is, she spends her last moments telling him that she loves him, and that even if she is reborn, she'll definitely fall in love with him again. With that, she passes away.
Shirley is an extremely kind girl, being extremely friendly and optimistic. When a new Japanese student enrolled, Suzaku Kururugi, she was the first one to befriend him, even though everyone else seemed to fear him. She has been shown to be a loyal friend, choosing to save Lelouch and not kill him when she had the chance to avenge her father. In the second season, she asks Suzaku if he could forgive Lelouch for what he had done. When he replied that no, he couldn't, she told him about how he probably did not want to forgive him, and that she herself had long forgiven him. This showed that she was also a very forgiving person. Still, she is human, and has gotten confused over her own feelings and such.
